Title: DG Kayaba fork set-up

Hi All
I have a pair of DG Kayaba forks fitted to my RM 370. Is there someone on the board who has some instructions or knowledge how to set them up correctly?

have you got a photo to post of what they look like? The aftermarket KYB's are pretty rare and you might just have normal ones with fancy stickers? The aftermarket KYB's were sold by DG performance in the USA mainly around the 78-80 period. They had billet alloy lower sliders, 38mm legs and there was an internal damping adjustment you could perform by adjusting something inside (im not sure what exactly) A NOS set of these forks sold on US ebay last year for a fair bit and a guy on this forum won them so should be able to help you. Just checked and it was member 'E74'

correctly setting them up will depend on your weight, riding syle, terrain etc and there is no one set way you have to adjust them, it can vary
oil weight
oil amount/air gap
air pressure
springs
preload

What do you want to know? Basically you just set them up like any 38mm kayaba's from the era.Its actually easier because you have 4 dampening adjustments. The spring will be soft as its expected that you run some air pressure.If you don't want to run air buy stiffer spring but measure them first don't just buy any spring for a 38mm kayaba because they wont fit .The DG KYB's are basically a copy of the 77 works fork , they use a thicker tubing for the stauchion(compared to YZ's at least) which means that the ID is smaller .

I understand from your replies that there are adjustable damping settings. I really need to know how to set these up.

yeah ok they are not DG forks, they are aftermarket Kayabas. DG just distibuted them.

just pull them apart and have a look. You would probably find to adjust the damping you can rotate the damping rod or something in/on the damping rod. One way will be more damping one way will be less. I would try 10 or 15 weight oil and set them up similar to OEM 38mm kayab forks on 78-81 YZ/RM's

Its like Leith has suggested.You dont need too pull them apart to see it though , just shine a torch down the tube and you will see a pin running across the damperrod head.You press down against a small spring and turn ,you need a bit of tube with a slot cut in the end.
