Title: Sources of rings and things
Post by: PEZBerq on October 23, 2007, 10:12:36 pm
I need a new ring for my 430 (87mm bore) but am getting told by a couple of sources that I can only buy a complete piston kit.  I dont want a new piston kit for $300 - just a ring!  Also would like to change the piston pin and bearing in the process.

Guys at Serco reckon a Wiseco 87mm outboard motor piston ring will work OK.  Wiseco dont have a Husky 430 in their range (just 250's for some reason).  Has anyone used non Husky rings with success?

Where do people get their vintage Husky rings and things from?

Cheers Steve

if its the same pin rebate, the same gap and the same profile and thickness - it will work, you should see some of the things we have resorted too, and some aint prity  ;D

Makes sense Freaky.  The current piston is a Mahle and there is nothing wrong with it so I am loath to blow $300 + on a new one.  Looks like outboard motoring we will go......now to find out where that shiny stuff in the gearbox oil is coming from!

Thanks JT

Fernando only has complete piston kits - Wossners, for $300 + GST.

I need a 2nd over bore ring - 87mm bore, standard is an 85mm bore I believe.

I discovered that R&D Husqvarna in Bathurst has little end bearings available.  I can get an 18mm pin from Serco (YZ490 I think) that is fractionally shorter than the Mahle piston pin but will work.  So I just need the ring.  If you can help JT I would owe you one! Let me know if you turn one up.
