i've always loved this sport but being a moto guy just rode mx...thing is know i have been offered a hagon slider with a worked over xl560 kitted honda motor really cheap..can you guys that ride them let me in on some secrets before i jump on it and hit a wall..me bloody old boy says just hold wide open and steer with the back wheel..but i dont see him putting his hand up for first ride
-
the sliding part is practice.down gear throttle control around corner opp to riding a mx.how much is cheap.if you dont want it i might be interested
cheers
jim

Grabb it .
Your dad is pretty much right, you do steer them off the back wheel and the front wheel is only there to keep the engine off the ground.
That is a speedway analogy and is only part of the explanation. With dirt track there is a lot more changing direction and the front wheel has more work to do, but don't rely on there braking ability.
Having said all that, don't be put off as they are good fun to ride, when you get it right.
As Jim said, if you're not interested please let us know.
What State are you in?
-
how easy, very easy. that's all they are designed to do.
if you can slide any bike, you can slide a slider.
-
Being able to straighten your right leg and get your Bum off the seat certainly makes it easier.
Sliding an MX bike can tend to pitch you over the bars when traction bites.
-
$1600 and the bike looks great except the alloy engine plates they made for the hot honda
-
thats a good price.fun to ride as well i have a hagon tt500 yamaha.i have back brake only on handle bars easy to use that way as you dont need to take your foot off the rh swing footrest.power down back straight back to 4th stand up left foot out and power on it will slide.start with short bits at a time till you are powering on at the start of the speedway corner.
its fun
cheers

Sounds like a great price.Go for it, see you at Nepean.
-

-

I'd be interested to see a photo K, as my brother played around with a Hagon - XR around 1980.
What tracks do you intend to ride at?
-
i live in gloucester....so my closest track would be old bar/taree track then newcastle so about an hour to each...ive tried posting pic's before but failed i will get miss's 2 do it as they know everything....lol
-
since its left hand change i'm going to make up a linkage system to run under motor to the right side of bike should make it a bit better for gear changes when sliding
-
my xt 500 in an elstar frame has the gear lever on the right. when it was on the left i tried various positions for the rear brake actuation but could not handle it with the gear lever on the left, so i made up a right hand set up which cost nothing but some oxy and a piece of 10 mm round high tensile steel rod off a burnt out commodore muffler bracket. any one wants details i'll see you at nepean at the state short circuit i mean dirt track weekend. cheers wally.
-
shit had a crack at the hagon last weekend....riding style goes way out the window when ya used 2 a mx bike....mass of fun...but a turtle with dunlop volley's on would have passed me but i'll keep on tryin
-
Whats the average speed for a new to average rider ???
cheers
-
Where's Freaky.
-
he would have a clue as he rides modified mx bikes not sliders.it depends on motor and the way its set up.i think you could get near 80mph down the streight on a average bike.curly what do you think
-
Yeah Jim 80mph would be close to max speed and that would be A graders on 500's.
If I remember rightly the talk was that around 70mph was top speed at the old Syd Showground, which doesn't sound that quick compared the GP bikes but believe me on a narrow track and surrounded by concrete it felt bloody fast.
Not to mention No Brakes.
Hopefully I'll catch up with you at Nepean on Sat night.

This this way off bat(thread hijack-doing that a bit tonight :-\) but I'm presuming that a slider is similar to a solo speedway bike.
We headed down to a Motorcycle Museum about an hour or so South West of Brisbane and found 4 solo speedway bikes, amongst others(below) . 8) Jawa's where popular.
Peed I didn't take a pic now :(
Do you know these speedway solo bikes history ?

Hey k, did you have the number 31 and wearing red white & blue leathers at Nepean the other weekend.
I think there is a photo of you on the St George club website.
Stick with it, when you get it right it is bloody good fun.
