Title: Head gasket material
Post by: vmxrider on July 13, 2009, 02:49:52 pm
I need a head gasket for my big bore XL 250 project, where in Sydney can I get a copper gasket made (I can supply a Cad drawing) or who supplies copper sheet so I can make my own. I've heard that aluminium has also been used for head gaskets, and I can't see why it wouldn't work and would be a lot easier to source.

Its only been about 6 years but finally getting the Motosport 270cc underway.
Got some 2mm copper sheet from a company I worked for and more or less cut a head gasket out by hand, not so pretty but should function I hope. Annealed it before fitting.
Should have I all back together and in bike next day or so and looking forward to having a bit more grunt. Motor has 130,000k's on it and was still on original bore, albeit with a broken 2nd ring.

Bunnings must be along way from home if it took 6 years  ;)

i though taking a few weeks to doing an airfilter was a long time.

Did I say I'd have it all back together in the next day or so, oops, meant next decade or so.

So all back together, clocked up about 20k's on the road so far, no sign of leakage. :)
