Please excuse me if there is already a thread on this topic...Although I am really looking forward to the vintage nats at Conondale, I must say that it is disapointing to see a National Meeting run with 3 lap races... Is this due to time constraints? An average lap of Conondale would be approx 2 min, so its 6 min races!! If you get an average start you finished. Also you would want to have a lot of bikes to get some decent track time over the 3 days.
-
Yeah i agree, 3 laps is a joke. And why have 1 moto a day for each class?
It would make much more sense to have all pre '70, pre '75 etc on the friday when the track is in good condition and evo, pre '85 on saturday, sunday. People with only 1 bike will sit around for 1 moto a day for 3 days!
-
3 laps isn't so bad, just means it's a sprint race so don't hold back ;)
-
I haven't made any mention of the track lay out, nor did I specify pre 85? Maybe the pre 78, evo and pre 85 races should be longer races, and the pre 75 and older 3 laps only. If the event has National championship status it needs cater for EVERY class appropiately.
-
I believe 3 laps is good when the track is 2.9kmn long :P oops 2.5km..
If you only get one moto a day then this is a great opportunity to catch up with other VMX enthusiasts 8)
cheers

Wasp
Do you know that reason,I would be keen to know along with others what it is?

I also believe that some clubs are now running 10 minutes and one lap (not nationals & not vmx)...
whats happening in this regard over east ????
cheers

3 laps is at most a 6 min race.. that's not motocross. If you get a bad start 3 laps is not long enough.
Maybe pre 70 and pre 75 should be 3 laps and the newer era's 4 or 5 laps.
Why compare 5 laps to modern bike racing, they have 20 and 30 min moto's, most vintage races are more than 3 laps.
Motocross has always been a combination of skill and fitness.. don't get confused with dirt track.
This is an Aussie title with a $150+ entry fee, not just another club day.
-
I'm an old bloke on an old bike and i reckon 3 laps is too short. Several of my friends are not entering because they don't agree with the 3 lap format so you could lose entries either way.. too long or too short.
I'm not talking 45 min moto's but even 10min would be ok.
-
Apart from the length of the races the craziest thing is each class having 1 race each day, whats going on with that?any one got any idea
-
Yeah Gary that's put a few people off. Even if you have 2 bikes that's 6 laps a day for 3 days!
That makes no sense at all.
-
i guess its too late now but with things like this why dont the organising committee contact each club and through this forum to see what the RIDERS actually want or pass a survey around at the event for things that can be changed next year, instead of just pulling the number of laps out of the sky and picking the number 3, yes i know there is time logistics but surely there can be compromises eitherway to keep the riders happy. If you dont keep the riders happy they wont come again next year, especially if they have far to travel, for only 3 lap races. What do people want? maybe they do want 3 laps or is there an overwhelming amount who want longer races? riding a MX bike isnt ment to be easy, so some pre event training might be required to have the endurance to last more than 3 laps if you want to do well ;)
-
I think time is very important with oops 21 class's and fitting them into one weekend as some have to work on Monday... :)
Its just the way it is, so everyone gets a go.. 8)
the entry cost has to be looked at also-I dought the clubs will make much of a cut with all the bits and pieces that go with an event of this magnitude....
You wouldn't believe how much dunny paper is used-I think some people eat it.
also Hot Chips are a good money maker ;) ;D
cheers

2 Pages and counting.
If you dont keep the riders happy they wont come again next year
I hope the Organiser's come next year.

whats wrong with you people,i live in a town ravished by bush fire which we are still coming to grips with. With the help from Dawn Baker,Viper and the Bluerock MCC my son is back enjoying racing. We are so looking foward to coming to QLD even if they are only three lap races.Lets help these clubs that put on these events as they are doing it for you the rider.
-
old bodies on old bikes, 3 laps is sufficient .
I thought it was about the bikes, not the riders ???. If it's about taking in the scenery, I thought that was what's done at Classic Dirt. ???
Three laps is crap. At any level......
-
You gotta go to club meetings and put your two bobs worth in ;D :-*
cheers

Without meaning to sound rude, why don't we all just have another cup of shut the fuk up and just ride the event ::) if there's a problem with 3 laps then after the event raise the issue with the appropriate people or governing body. I'm feeling really sorry for the guys putting in all the hard yards for this event only to have this whining and complaining. The footpeg issue as well as the then 'new undesirable' noise restraints were put in place before the Coffs and Tassie events and both of these events went off like a house on fire. I know for sure the Coffs event was staged with 3 lap races and the track is a heck of a lot shorter than Conondale but guess what..after the meeting was over I think there was something like 14 pages of positive feedback on this forum!! 3 laps works well..I bet after the event no one will be whining about the length of the races you just mark my words and don't you worry about that! ;)
-
the club put together a meet - you decided through the entry form to ride under the conditions as set out. Don't start complaining about them after you have agreed to ride. Also spare some consideration for the guys organising it - they can't and shouldn't have to explain each and ever decision they make as to why they are running a meet the way they are. Dare I say it that maybe the fact we cover all the way up to pre 85 now means either more days or shorter races to make sure all classes get covered - remember the thread about maybe splitting the eras because they are becoming so big! Like Wasp - I shall go and catch up and pester other people between my races and I am thankful for that (although maybe the people I will be visiting might not be ;D)
-
I wasn't meaning the up-and-coming event at all. My bad. :P
-
Slightly off the topic but, I'm not going to ride at this event but did want to come and spectate and camp over for at least one night. As this is a three day event, is racing on all three days and are they Fri, Sat and Sunday? Could someone please clarify.
-
Forgot something, I heard camping was restricted to competitors only, is this the case and is it enforced??
-
www.qvmx.com.au ............. no au

Is that a yes or no?

www.qvmx.com

Thanks Mr Campbell ;D
I think it first in first serve for camping ,just get there when the gate opens early friday morning or rock up thursday night maybe :-X ....ring or email club ;D
cheers
-
The website says Competitors and their immediate family only. Are you (vmx247) saying if I (spectator only) roll up on the Thurs night or early Fri morn I may be allocated a camp site (first in first served)?

some people are still looking for swingers
Walter i suggest the following;
1. Locate the nearest assylum to Connondale and offer a weekend escape package with the proviso that they chair a ride
(or)
2. Have the owner/steerer offer a free frontal lobotomy as part of a sponship package.
And maybe then you might find a few extra passengers.
I watched you and a couple of your lunatic mates attack Drunks Hill at Connondale in what was a meant to be a non-competitive environment and it only re-inforced the fact that you are all mad (or very smart) ;)
-
VMX247.
OK. So it looks like spectators will not be allowed to camp over for a night or two. Do you know what the admission fee is for spectators is and is there a multi-day pass for spectators?
-
pmc57 i would be asking Noel(NSR3) about the deal with camping, he's in the sunny coast club.

PM sent

While MA insists that any club wanting to run a Classic Motocross Nationals must include all classes up to and including pre 85, you can all look forward to shorter races to fit everything into the schedule. My suggestion would be to lobby MA through your clubs or direct to the Classic Motocross Commission to allow future nationals to be run seperating say up to pre 75, then up to pre 85 as seperate nationals.

Mike there has been a fair bit on these page (below) about the classes etc..I believe MA will no longer allow different class's to split.I believe they want us all together and run the class's for all.
Not that some of these these class's will be filled ie pre65 and sidecars...of courses depending on your geographically Aussie state..
We must all lobby/write to MA, not just one or two clubs..
We have to fight the good fight together to make this run and happen for all VMZXer's...
Long slow hard slog ahead ;) ;D Who's in for the chase ? 8)
cheers

There's nothing new or exciting about 3-lap races in vmx, it makes a lot of sense for all except those who are ambitious, or (gag) quick !....
Lap 1 : Ambition
Lap 2 : Realisation
Lap 3 : Hanging on and waiting for the flag...... ;)
