Hello everyone down under. Great Vintage MX forum y'all have here. My name is Cam and I recently got the bug to relive my youth and go vintage racing. Since my racing heyday was in the early 80's I went looking for the fastest 250 of the era, an '82 RM250, and after about a year of looking for the right bike I happened upon this one last month, just five miles from home. The bike has approximately 25 hours on it from new and was never raced. It was a little dirty so the restoration started with a lot of scrubbing. The original plastic was in good shape but had faded over the years so I ordered new OEM parts from my local Suzuki dealer. Fortunately most of the stuff is still available but your very own Craig Taylor helped out with the now discontinued right frame cover. Thanks Craig. The bike was still rolling on the original Bridgestone tires, which had never been off the rims. They were dry rotted so fresh rubber was installed as well as new graphics, air filters, chain and sprockets. I started it for the first time Saturday and it lit up on the second kick. I was happy to discover that all that power I remembered from '82 was still there but quickly found out why new bikes have disc brakes. Fortunately, I have a set of 43mm forks from an '84 RM250, with the double leading shoe brakes, that I'll be installing soon. I look forward to learning more about the bikes, and vintage mx in general, from your great site.

Jesus your right, that grass looks good enough to eat or smoke ? bloody tidy bike too, do you ride it ? its cleaner than my dishes........ and thats after they have been throught the dishwasher .

i have a freind who lives in spicewood out of austin i bought my 1973 cr250 from the bloke next door.
i was there in 2004 and liked the places were i visited

Thanks for the warm welcome and compliments. The bike has been a labor of love and I'm chomping at the bit to get it on the track. Unfortunately the vintage racing season is over for the rest of the summer but that will give me a couple of months to get it dialed in before our fall series starts up. The lawn, on the other hand, is just a lot of labor. Especially with temps over 100 degrees here lately.

One good thing about Texas is you're close to Jefferson for Diamond Don's race. I had a go there in 08 and it's a blast. Don't miss it!

Yeah, that's the biggest vintage race in Texas and it's only 45 minutes from my in-law's place. I plan on racing it next April, for sure.

now if you need giudence on painting it red just ask
even though my brother went to the Yellow brigade and did the same bike as yours im sure with some help we could convert you

I have four Hondas in the garage already but the yellow bike was the king of the class in the post vintage years so they will just have to get along. ;)

Hey Cam, howz it going and gidday from NZ nice bike mate, yep they were very quick but one thing to remember about the 250Z and D is check all your bolts after each Moto mate. They are fast but had a habit of shakn themselves to bits.
My flavour is white with a red seat, never got into the American YZ's, have a couple of pre 80 YZ projects in the garage, anyway good luck and talk again.

I noticed that on my first shake down run last week. Even though this bike has low hours, it vibrates a lot. I'm thinking that blue loctite on every bolt should keep everything where it belongs.
