Title: yzB - monshock rebuild ?
Post by: Freakshow on October 16, 2007, 02:02:56 pm
howdy i know the deal with the twin shock and how you cant rebuild thethermo flows, but whats the go with the "B" mono shocks.  I guess the answer was easy for the twin shock, as in piss them off and get aftermarket.  Are the 360 the same as the 250 ? or anything else more recent.

With the mono, i cant figure out if you can rebuild them, or even have 2, just i dont remeber any After market offerings avaialble now as its limited in application and quite specific, or can you modify later model from an IT or somthing ? they just dont look to rebuildable ? feedback before i make a bad decision.   :-\

which will then lead to my next question is there an option in there that will allow me to drop it to the 41/2 inch travel to mean it can be ridden pre 75, if that is the catch to using the monshocks in pre 75 :P

ive actually heard that you can rebuild sealed shocks that are not rebuildable. i read it somewhere in VMX mag. if i cant find an original set of PE shocks that are not leaking and and have good shafts, i think i will have to get it done to get the original correct shocks in working condition

Any shock can be rebuilt , but sometimes its cheaper to buy something more modern and new for the same price.

Freaky, I am going through the same process myself. :( The shock my 360B came with won't hold gas pressure for more than a few laps. I did have the shock serviced but didn't cure the leakage problem. I have since bought a new membrane (the bladder in the bowl shape reservoir) and a new rubber doodad that the needle passes through to fill the reservoir. I haven't fitted these parts yet but hopefully they will cure the problem.

YSS, I was told you could manufacture a new shock for these bikes. Have you made many monoshocks for the old YZ's? Could you maybe give me an idea of pricing if I need to go down that track later on.

I too missed this topic in the old forum, so any info is welcome ;D

Hey YSS and myself (Tim754) may appear to differ on somethings ;) but Look if your in South Australia no excuses, or bloody anywhere in the World with the net. Go to YSS site and contact Walter or one of the other specialists there. They know their stuff!!!!
I know of one particular old style single YZ single shock that was replaced by them and it is "sweet as" according to it's fast racing owner. Makes the front end really appear like the crap it is,,, It cost less than quote to rebuild the old leaker too !!
Now I wonder if they have a set for my Classic speedway outfit???  OK JUST KIDDING yeah yeah it has a rigid rear end, ::) Cheers buggers Tim

i learnt my lesson rebuilding the koni's, the 2nd shaft just broke again after 5 laps at the state champs, i wont rebuild anything now unless it comes with a guarentee.  what's the modern replacement costing ? and does it need to be set to 4 1/2 ?

Freaky , that was not YSS that rebuilt your Konis. So I dont want to elaborate on that.
As far as the Yamaha shocks go , each old shock has to be looked at induvidually and asessed to its condition and the options possible.

walter never said it was you guys, im only saying it was a costly mistake rebuilding that bitch, just to run one race and totally shit the other shaft.  The stupid things dont have any rebound so the cone always smashes on the upstroke at the top of the outer,  i cant see how they can every take the pounding.

assuming the shaft is 14 mm and the body is 46 mm  , the seal block complet is 72.00 , the radial piston  is 58.00 , the piston ring is 15.00  and the shims are 2.00 each as needed for your weight.
