Can anyone explain to me why the VM32 carby as fitted to a 1980 RM125 has a physically smaller slide than the VM32ss as fitted to a 1981 RM125.
I'm not taking cut outs, the slides are different sizes. I cant get my head round why this should be and what effect it has.

It doesn't make any difference. If the venturi diameter is 32mm on both carbys then they work the same.
-
you have missed the point
i also have a few 38mm that the slides are different dia.why is that so?????
the venturi is the same

I don't know why they are a different size but the point is it doesn't matter.
-
what happens when you have to replace a worn slide.i have slides that fit some 38mm but not others they are either too big or too small in dia.
so the point i would like to know why is there different dia mikuni slides

For different applications they have different model carbys i guess. I don't really know why it is, but you would need to know model numbers when ordering parts.
