Title: hey all, new here.
Post by: steveo247 on June 06, 2009, 10:14:54 pm
g day, been reading through here the last few days and what a great site it is !

The plan is for me and my old man to restore his 83 yz250 k.
as it is now -

ive been riding it for a few years, but have recently given in and bought an 06' 250f.

here - complete with vomit worthy stickers.

dad has known the bike since it was new, a mate of his owned it for a few years, sold it to my uncle who has had it for a bit over 20 years and we have had it for the last few.
Its never been rebuilt, and its still a strong motor, and mostly complete bike.
the thing is mental in a straight line, will leave my 2006 four stroke for dead. Pity it doesnt stop or turn ! lol.

So the plan is to do a bit of a resto, not an all out $$ trophy bike dont wanna get it dirty type thing.
its still got to be ridden !

so at the moment i am gathering information, finding places to get parts, trying to estimate costs etc etc.
and hopefully in a few weeks it will go all systems go.
we're pretty handy, but dont mind paying to get the the harder things done properly.

i love the yellow and black.
would love to have them both looking like these !

ANY tips, sites i should check out or reccomendations would be fantastic help guys.

steve.

that's a fairly good YZ250K you have there, they were a very fast bike back then and a big iprovement over the year before.

Has your dad had it since new.

LWC82PE thanks very much mate, thanks a fantastic help !

hoony thanks mate, it amazes me how fast it is. dad hasn't owned it since new but has known it since new, as in we have known all the owners.

The chain protector part, part no - 5X62214701 is missing and the chain has done a bit of damage to the swingarm.

anyone know if any other year model will fit or am i just looking for an 83' ?

thanks guys.

Ahhhh the innocence of starting out. What else do you have tucked away there Steve? No four valve CCM's being used to power the dam pump or some big ugly red Maico propping the end of the work-bench?  ::)

Welcome  ;)

lol.. well theres lots of stuff here, but nothing too exciting.
2 x XL 500 hondas, SP 370 suzuki, XL 125 honda..
and some random other stuff, like my 450cc 2 stroke 2 cylinder hovercraft engine and fan  ;D

would that be a 76 X or 76 C? wasnt there 2 125's in 76?

it seems there was 2 in 76. and this one is a 76 X.

Hi Steve, you have very good taste in bikes and the 250K looks like a bloody good start point, word of warning you'll soon start trolling ebay and local rags looking for parts for the 125x and the rest will be history.
Have put in a pic of 3 of my girls since this was taken we've added 3 more.

cheers MC
