I don't know much about these units.
Were these the start of the dud models, born at the end of Maico's glory days?

The '82 model "Alpha 1" was supposed to be the dud model . The '83 Sandspider was apparently a good thing.

I had one and theyre better than an '81 490.

I've had a couple of '84's much better than the '81.......but obviously in a different class.
