Wouldnt you want to support the sporting club which has been running classic/viper event for years. They should have all the support  of victorians vmx community and help them in there time of need.
Running a club day on the same day is selfish
Its just my opinion
Long live Barrabool

GOOD OLD STU. ITS NOT AN OUTING MY FRIEND. YOU NEED TO COME ALONG AND SEE, VERY WELL ORGANISED MEETINGS, THE SPORTING CLUB HAS ALWAYS BEEN CARE FOR BY THE CSC.
Title: Re: VCM Round 2 at Barrabool, May 3
Post by: albrid-3 on April 29, 2009, 08:57:13 pm
Note: The VCM, is a commitee not a club, so if the sporting club or any other register club  within victoria or districts can only run  their own race meeting,
The VCM was set up to seat a 10 man or women Commitee for the controling body of Vintage Motorcross, not to run race meetings.

David this is good old Frank DeRose,

When i started this thread i was looking for support and some positive comments about Barrabool and the VCM, not interested in the CSC, never have been and never will be.
I was race coordinator for the VCM series for many years, the reason for the clash
is CSC do there own thing and dont care about anyone else.
The clash effects one or two only, no big deal.

The VCM series is run on behalf of Motorcyling Victoria and is the offical Victorian championship series, classes range from pre 65 - 70 to evo, juniors, sidecars, as per the rulebook.

That is Good Frank, But whether you care or not, The CSC has done a lot for vintage mx and so have the men behind it, and you fellows are doing well too, plus the CSC helped the
sporting club in the early days of survival.  To help the sporting club to save the track I think they should tender for the  2010  Australia Titles next year at easter, plus l would add CD7 as well that would help build the numbers and l would invite the premier of victoria for the day`s event to show him what the sporting club is trying to save. Import some of the old factory riders pre 70, pre 75, pre 78, pre 80 era to come and race on the day. their are some ideals to help geelong sporting club. (Air fares are cheap now.)

I'm not riding at the moment, but I might come down with the old man for a look on the day.

For anyone thinking about riding this weekend, support the VCM & SMCC and get down to Barrabool.

Correct me if I'm wrong for this year Frank, but if you have an Evo bike, you'll be able to do 6 rounds (you can also ride in the Pre78's for zero points).

This is a good track & well setup for the old bikes when they visit.
Title: Re: VCM Round 2 at Barrabool, May 3
Post by: FDR on April 30, 2009, 04:37:12 pm
Yes if you have an Evo bike you can race pre 78 and get three extra rides, no points or trophy.

Entries are solid, weather looks good, track groomed with natural terrain section, rare chance to race vintage bikes on the famous Barrabool circuit.

Bring it on.

If you have not pre entered and intend to ride just enter on the day, no problem

The Sporting club could run the titles, VCM had discussions with the Sporting club in the past. Simple fact the profit margins are not good enough for the effort involved, make more money running a one day VCM or Viper event.
Perhaps your beloved CSC could bring the titles back to Victoria, I would imagine running to the GCR's with Pre 78 & Evo classes would be a problem.
Title: Re: VCM Round 2 at Barrabool, May 3
Post by: albrid-3 on April 30, 2009, 06:12:13 pm
Why would pre78 be a problem, if a club like CSC or any other club for that matter the club would have to stick to the GCR , and if pre78 and pre 80 is legal and in the vintage rules then their would be a problem, the CSC WOULD HAVE TO RUN THEM.

Title: Re: VCM Round 2 at Barrabool, May 3
Post by: Rider on April 30, 2009, 08:35:46 pm
mxmaniac, No You could not run your Maico 490 at a round of the Classic Scamble Club Series and I suspect the natural terrain tracks that the CSC race on would not be much of a challenge to you.The CSC races Are Pre-75 only and the tracks are set in undulating settings to reflect what was used in the period. The Maico would be a blast around Barrabool, Regards Terry..

The grass tracks with no jumps in undulating hills that the VCM guys run are great fun, probably similar to your tracks? They are best 2 events of the year i think, just got to get my lazy arse back in the vintage saddle and enjoy whatever is on offer. 8)  Being just under 30, it is great to see the pre 75's in the flesh, thanks to them deciding to let the evo boys have a play, alot of us guys who rarely see them got to watch the Herbert boys and smith boys show what they are capable of.  I wish i could of made the trip to VCM at barrabool, but got other commitments this weekend. :'(

Glad you enjoyed the natural terrain VCM events at Mirboo North and Stony creek, looking forward to seeing you and the family at Mirboo and Stony creek later in the year.
Please bring the 81 Maico with you as it can only add to the spectacle.
CSC club cut off is pre 75, pre 78 and EVO are not catered for and never will be.

wouldn't it depend what is written in your constitution of your club and not the GCR's

Amen.  I'm about the same age as mxmaniac and totally agree with him.  Boags & Mirboo Nth are absolutely awesome tracks and I really look forward to them.  Even though I'm sitting the season out, the plan is to do those rounds this year.  Plenty of steep hills, super challenging off-cambers (first turn at Mirboo anyone??) flat out sweepers and lots of road-race style braking duels into hairpins.

I overheard a bit of startline banter last year about these grasstracks making it easy for everyone.  I disagree.  It's a different set of skills when you don't have berms to take you round the corner... (no matter how new or old your bike is).

GOOD TO HEAR HOW MUCH U LOVE MIRBOO NTH NR555 WE WANT BE CHANGING THE TRACK MUCH THIS YEAR MITE PUT ONE MORE SWEEPER IN .    THE GOOD THING ABOUT EAST MALVERN RUNNING THE ROUND IS WE HAVE 70 YEAR EXPERIENCE IN RUNNING EVENTS WHEN THE OLD BOYS TELL ME HOW GOOD THE TRACK IS AND HOW IT REMINES THEM OFF THE GOOD OLD DAYS I NO WE ARE RUNNING A REAL VINTAGE(SCAMBLE)RACE.   HOPE TO SEE A BIG EVENT THIS YEAR AS ALL THE PROFITE WILL GO TO THE MIRBOO NTH CFA.    REGARDS  DREW

You can camp at the track, confirmed by the Sporting MCC

Natural terrain tracks such as Mirboo & Stony creek are as good as you will find, technical and demanding on body and mind.
Lots of work goes into running quality natural terrain events, all worth it once you get out there.
I enjoy the VCM series because you race on natural terrain and estabilished mx tracks.

Thanks Pigmy about the camping,
I am a bit older than most but can rembember racing at the Old Orbost track (the Herbert boys where just a twinkle in Tony's eye at the time), wow it was a ripper it weaved  through a gully and crossed over a fork in another gully and a drop of thay took you breath away, and then there as another natural terraine track at Bairnsdale wow it was even better, I remember the Flood Brothers putting on a real show.  and has any ever raced at Mallacoota, ???  I have what a goat track.   HL

Wise choice to leave the 125 at home, I can still hear the poor elsinore motor screaming from last year.
Get to the track early so we can wrap you up like a mummy just in case the 430 decides to bite again.

The herbert boys are bullshit fast :o...
With that scramble club,  how many riders are attending these scrambles events?
Is there bar bangin or more of just a ride around? ???
If its the same sort of crowd of blokes and racing they get at viper and vcm, should be worth a look!

From memory one or two quick guys, nothing fast like the Herberts or Baker boys.
Check it out if you please, always nice bikes to look at.
No events on this side of the westgate, prepare to drive a long distance.

Jake hide your bike, dont leave it in the shop.

Yes a great day of racing for sure, even after bringing 3 broken bikes home, (not my fault, no crashes). Probably a good thing they broke as the injuries were crying foul early in the piece. 5 races instead of 11 was plenty enough, given the lack of bike fitness and lingering injuries. Good strong fields in most classes and good competition with a bunch of good blokes. VCM wins hands down for me.
Now Mr. Pigmy,
It's not Jakes bike to hide, and it won't be sold (well maybe not), unless he keeps riding it as good as he does and beating us! Mr. Pigmy gets the luckiest bastard alive trophy after yesterdays effort. I witnessed a third gear tapped, past 45 degrees nose dive off a down hill ski jump, on a '74 Maico 400! It was like slow motion behind him and somehow the bike came down the right way instead of going over. Bet you couldn't do it again. I'm sure his goggles will have a big imprint from when his eyeballs touched the lens, and his nylons have a big hole chewed in them by his sphincter. It was that close and you don't realise how lucky you were, go and buy a tattslotto ticket today!
Cheers,
K

CZ 400 rider Henry Leatham, former sponsored top A grader from the seventies, not raced for 26 years.
The man is in his fifties, challenged the Herbert boys no problem.
Very fast rider and smooth, hell of a nice fellow.

Big K
I have purchased a tattslotto ticket, missed a gear as i approached the jump, been riding for many years and quite possibly the scariest moment so far.
Parked the Maico after scare and finished the day on the Bultaco Mk 7 125
You were riding very well Big K.
