Title: Do you recognise this wheel.
Post by: mx250 on April 27, 2009, 05:06:59 pm
It is Suzuki. 12mm axle. Probably an RM125 - I think the larger 250 and 400 had the same hub but 17mm axle.

Has it got magnesium cast into brake plate ????    Brake shoe size would be a dead set give away also

look up EBC brakes for shoe sizes  ;)

Okay we've id it from a 125; I need one suitable for a 15mm axle - probably from 250 or 400.

I'll swap or buy; complete or backing plate only. Any takers :) 8).

TM250 also use the same wheel as the RM125M/S/A . All use a 12mm axle as do near all the RM125/250/370/400's up to at least 1980 ;)

I've got a set of what I think are '80 RM400 forks -  38mm, 15mm axle. I have offered up this wheel and backing plate and it fits.

1980 RM400N forks are 38mm alright but they have a 12mm axle like all the other zoook 100-400 mx'ers of the era ;) 15mm axle is not suzuki. Kawasaki '83 KDX250 forks ran 14mm axle and these forks look near the same as the RM jobs but not sure if they're 36 or 38's :-\

So you reckon these are not RM Doc? No rubber mounted handlebars mounts!! Maybe Kawa, Yammy?

38mm 15mm axle.

I should say that I'm pretty sure that they originally had fork gaiters - the dust wipes are aftermarket.

They look very much like RM125t especially with the lug on the left fork for the brake cable holder and the front plate mounts on the triple clamps.

Did the T have 15mm axle? I don't think they have been modded.

The number plate mounting screw top and bottom is distinctive. I don't think any Yammy did it this way? Other suggestions?

I'm still leaning toward kawasaki early to mid 80's 175/250 for the forks as they run a 15mm axle and look near identical to RM N/T forks. Agreed with John the clamps are definately 'polished' RM125N/T as kawasaki used 2 pinch bolts in the top clamps for a start. Similar at a glance but not the same as what you have in the pic. Kawa's early to mid 80's kdx175 and kdx250's also run the 15mm axle albeit a hollow axle. They might have a 14mm axle nut but it's a 15mm axle ;)

So you think it might be a bitza, a bit of mix and match.

yup, that's my guess ;) I'll double check the fork legs but the kawasaki stuff is soooooo similar it's a rip off. The tappered steering head bearing also..very kawasaki of the era ;) Maybe the forks are RM but the 15mm axle isn't unless it's been bored which makes me think someone put the front end together and assumed the forks were Suzuki. Maybe wrong but that's the impression that I get ;)

Those 38mm forks with 15mm axle look like 82-84 PE175 Forks to me but with non original wipers. The triples are suzuki for sure, most likely PE175 floater.

79/80 RM 125 has 12mm axle

I thought the PE175 only had a 12mm axle also like near all the other RM/PE/TS/TM's?

yes the ones with 36mm forks have 12mm axle.  Im talking about late model 175's ;) The 38mm forks on the full floater PE 175 82-83 definitely have 15mm axle and the forks are pretty much the same as the RM125 X i believe, but with a little less travel.

okay you'd know ;) I'm starting to get a little out of my era after 1980 and especially with PE's
