I always thought the '74 DT360 had points and that the first CDI came on the '75 DT400B. However my ever diminishing memory may have me mistaken. I think the DT250B had CDI as well.

DT360A CDI most definitely. System straight conversion bolt on to the predecessor  RT360 range, Quick cure for the leg breaking kick backs.

Well there ya go, I'm wrong again! I should've stayed quiet! I've got DT400 ignition on one of the DT1 engines I've built. The other two have PVL and MX250A ignitions. All three engines have almost identical porting and only have different heads.(DT2MX, ACK and Webco). It'll be interesting to see the differences an ignition can make when comparing.
Sorry to left turn the thread Yuma.

Back to normal transmission.

Haven't worked this one out for myself yet, Roger.
Years ago, I pulled a CDI from an apparently original DT250C (twin shock), and so I'd been assuming that all of the 76+ DT250s were CDI, but I've since seen a few with points.
The few monoshock DT250s I've looked at, have had either CDIs, or points ignitions.

The 74 DT360A ignition goes straight onto a DT250A, if that makes a difference to you? The same ignition also fits onto DT1s and RT1s, as Oggy has just said.

Thanks Nathan, this seems to be the problem. A mate of mine has a couple of '78-'79 DT250's,one came with no stator or anything and the other doesn't appear to have a CDI unit.I would have thought that most Yamaha's after about '75 would have been CDI ???
He hasn't taken the flywheel cover off yet to have a look ,but how do you tell which models are supposed to have CDI or not ???

Standard  CDI by 78/79 unless some dill has taken the CDI out of the system and bolted the points back in, as you could if you wanted to ::)
