Looks like all the negative posts on here didn't make any difference. Didn't think it would go this high but good to see..
-
Holy Cow Batman !!!
What happened to the original thread - was it removed or was I missing something?
Anyway good to see that he got a good price despite the carping - I still believe someone has bought themselves a decent ride
Keep those prices high, lol !!!

so many old bike seem to get high bids or selling price's then all off a suddened they are listed again
good luck to him if thats what he sold it for .as to the negatives about it the pics ,they spoke for them self it was what it was a modified frame and thats the only thing that was brought to forum members notice .it will probably turn up again
-
btw its not a 74

I agree with Paul. The original thread merely stated the facts that modifications had been undertaken on the frame and were not an attack to the bike nor the seller. I cant read into it any more than that.
On the otherside, nice to see he did get the good money for his bike, he did not represent it to be something that it is not except it was a 73 model and not a 74.(but that wouldnt make a difference to anybody looking for a pre 75 ride and the seller may have believed that to be the gospel) Good luck to him ;)

What happened to the original thread on this? I add to everyone elses thoughts that nobody gave any negatives on the bike on the earlier thread. We merely pointed out to any potential buyer who happened to be viewing this forum that the bike wasn't what it was being advetised as, it was a home modified '73 model not as the seller claimed, a 74 model. Other than that, the bike was a pretty clean racer. Not worth the money though.
-
When i said negative posts i wasn't having a shot at anyone. I'm happy to see how much it went for cos i've got one almost exactly the same (a modified '73).
-
i remove the previous thread to be fair .now the auctions over i can tell you that he has a 74.5 440 gp and he should know the difference and as i said i asked him if the frame was modified (no was the answer) and it obviously had , so go figure it out for your self
good luck to him ,it can easyly be fixed if you want to go that way
-
I watched this auction with interest but missed the discussion prior to it ending.
I assume someone indicated the bike was not as it was advertised and with it being in Mildura,
you can't just nip out and have a quick look for yourself, you have to rely on the honesty of the seller.
If someone on this forum knew otherwise they should get a pat on the back for trying to enlighten
those who may not be as familiar with that particular model.
A couple of days ago I emailed a seller about a small Yamaha road bike on Ebay which he had described
as all original which it wasn't by a long way. He replied that he wasn't all that clued up on that model
but he didn't change his description, so some poor bastard is going to end up with an overpriced bitzer.
I reckon this forum is a good place for the mx bike detectives out there to use their knowledge when
they see fit, it can't do anything except keep the bastards honest. :)

The price the 73 with the bent rear end fetched must have inspired this seller and it's not at the reserve yet ?

What recession - I like it !
Hey Paul - I have to agree that it was strange that he didn't reply when you asked him questions. I bet he would want good money for the GP.
The money he got for the one we are talking about was more that I paid for my 440GP - made that a good buy for sure !

you have to be in the right place at the right time i recon

Gosh it's hard to get a handle on the price of these vmx'ers. From your previous post Oggy Doggy re the 250 Maico on E Bay you seemed adamant that no way was it worth what it sold for. So what do think would have been a fair and reasonable price.
-
Col it's hard to put a price on anything in this financial enviroment but for that kind of money I'd be hanging out for one with a correct frame. It has to be top dollar for a bike with such a badly done frame. I've seen pre 74 frames modified so well you can't tell. That one wasn't a very good job and therefore in my opinion not worth $5250. I reckon it's worth 3k in an honest market.
