I reckon it's probably only half way to the reserve so far.

I'd agree with Johnny O.
Mine is mechanially good (not perfect) and cosmetically a lot less-good than this one of Dave's. I paid $2300 for mine ~12 months back, and most people seemed to think that it was a fair price.
(Personally, I thought that I paid too much, but I just didn't care).
The range of values between a reasonable, complete bike (like mine), through to an immaculate one, seems quite narrow - so even an apparently good one like this one, is quite unlikely to sell for anything much above $3.5k. I'll be VERY surprised if it gets up near $5k.

I've never quite figured out what's supposed to happen if you're prepared to pay the reserve, but nobody bids against you to push the bidding up to the reserve.

You looking for a bike to ride/race, or a Garage Queen, Walter?

The A model YZ's are worth pretty good money. Nathan summed it up pretty well.

If you bid and hit the reserve it will come up but if you don't reach the reserve the price will only increase as others bid against you.

In Dave's defence, give him a break fella's, who knows what his current circumstances are. As for the tank Yammiefan, I know for a fact the one on the YZ125A advertised is not the one he got from you. Dave's a decent bloke and has a heart of gold, he just seesm to change his mind about old motor bikes a lot.
Cheers,
K

mmmmm, soon as i saw this one on ebay i fell off my chair, it had me stumped as to all the 'i needs these bits' please help me and my son to , i just lined up another 125 for him, then it turns out he has had the bits, infact the whoel bike - all the time, changing your mind is one thing, but i just dont get it. its all getting a bit to weird for my liking,

i thinks im pulling mine off the table, till its makes some genuine sense.

I'm with BigK, Dave is a top bloke and after all we are all salesmen one way or the other and if he want's to sell then so be it.At least it's giving someone the chance to buy a bike they can race and we are all in this sport to have fun and get more bikes going racing. I spotted this bike at The Gerangamete event last weekend and it is absolutly spottless and should fetch a good price. ;D

Like anything Wasp. It is worth what your happy to pay. I have at times paid what others have said was way too much, but I was then and still happy with my purchase now. Its totally up to you to decide on a figure and go for it.

Just to set things straight, Dave's son was never going to ride the YZ125A, which incidentally came from me. Dave's plan was to ride the YZ himself and build a YZ lookalike using a DT125 as a base for his son. The parts Dave has been asking for were never for the bike advertised on ebay. I don't think Dave's much of a haggler, so I would imagine he's paid fair money for whatever he's gathered. Obviously Dave's plans have changed for some reason, which is NONE OF OUR BUSINESS. Bid on the bike if you like but leave the guy alone, we're all a bit strange in our own ways. I doubt any of you could say different.
Cheers,
K

Thanks Fellows for the comments, that is fine, the yz 125 on ebay is a great little bike, and yes l have parts to build another down the track and my son was going to race it if he wanted too, l have been trying to get my son to ride vintage for 10 years but his heart is not in it, he is learning to fly planes and that is where his money is going into, plus he has applied for the Air force and waiting for a reply, which the intake is in August around the time of QLD Vintage titles. Plus last november he had a shoulder reconstructed so he is not in the position to race bikes . Freakshow, l am genuine fellow and at the time l was looking for parts and still am, but l have spent a lot of money in the last 3 months, and if my wife new, well she would unplug my computer, and that would be bad. I have put 2 bikes up for sale if they sell some person will get a great bike, if they don`t, well they will be raced at the National by me and look out if your slow l will use you for traction  ;D ;D ;D
cheers

You have wife new? Is that the reason for selling your bike ?   I sold my bike recently  for good money too. Must be a good time for selling.

All good eh,
My moto is tell the wife everything you buy for what you paid for it if she asks, they will get sick of asking and as long as they dont see you wheel the bike into the garage then it will just blend in with the rest of the white, silver or yellow- the only issue is i am currently lookin at a KX. If i could get white plastics it would also blend in..
