im trying to find a set of dg heads and pipes for my 1976 rd250 and i would like to know if there is a rd forum or a just a general roadbike forum thanks Michael. :)
-
there is a RD forum. dont ask me where, i just stumbled across it when searching for RD/RZ parts in 'yahoo search'
probably every couple of weeks a set of RD DG heads comes on ebay. over the past few years ive seen probably over 20 pairs for sale. they are not that rare. Next set i see i will let you know
-
thats good i tought they might be ultra rare i dont mind getting them from overseas would it be the same story with dg pipes are dg pipes that good or could gmc make me something of similar or better looks and quality thanks again Michael. :)

If you want loads of cool RD stuff look here....

Forget about DG heads, just have the stock heads re-profiled it's cheaper and will be more up to date. Forget DG pipes too they work O.K but are BUTT-UGLY
Machine the intakes to suit RZ reed blocks or use V-Force Banshee blocks instead. As a long term RD/RZ owner (I've had over 20 Yamaha twins) I know just how much fun they can be

thanks i will check them out i like the look of the dg heads my exhausts are original and chrome rusty and a bit dinged so they would cost a heap to fix anyway whats the best looking pipes i could get for the rd besides stock thanks Michael.
-
Motocarrera are the prettiest by far but I have heard a rumor you can get pete gibson pipes in aus now, heres his U.K site...

You will find it VERY hard to find 250 heads as I believe they only sold heads for the more popular 350cc and 400cc models
If your 250 is like this type...
or this type...

then you can still fit the 73-75 RD350 barrels and heads without having to change the crank as well.
The difference, especially in the mid-range, is quite dramatic and fun

Thanks guys those pete gibson pipes look trick i will see what some are worth mine is more like the second but that thing looks like it has had work done i have checked with yamaha spare parts manager and he said it is known as rd250cd because most rd's up to 76 models anyway have drum rear mine has factory rear disc apperantley a few were specially imported like that mine has spoked wheels not daytona styled mine is a dark blue i have heard of fitting rd350 heads etc etc not sure if i will do it though rd250 was the fastest learner legal bike around in its day so im only 16 i want to ride it on my l's so im not going to be flying around the second photo looks like something i would like except for the daytona wheels and stock pipes and i would prefer to keep its original seat but get new shocks and bits and peices i started it not long ago and it was good fun had a ride in my front yard also would any one no if rd's ever came with low bars mine a chrome but really low thanks Michael. :)
-
Best chrome replacement bars for early Rd's are the "LC" bend type normally available in black but are also available in chrome. Flat bars drag bars and ace bars may look trick but are murder on your wrists, you could ride a 1000kms in a day with the LC bend.
-
yeah i thought so when i was on it posture with them isnt that good could see it becoming uncomfortable to ride in that position i need a few bits and peices but because it is a runner and mostly complete and i only paid $200 for it i can spend a bit on it to do get trick bits etc etc

Hi Frosty
I have built some chambers for the RD but they were for the 350 watercooled model.

I wouldn't recomend you taking to the road at 18 with the RD though.
Too many dickheads on the road, best you learn how to deal with them in a car first.
-
i seen the pipe you made for Alex's pe400 which looked great i would like some trick ones like those 350 ones but obviously 250 air cooled could you pm with a rough idea of cost if you need the bike if you have access for having them plated etc etc thanks alot Michael.
-
I don't remember making a pipe for a PE 400, but if it looked great then I will take responsibility for it ;D
The RD pipes I list as $814.00 pair - unplated
I would need your bike to build your pipes but I wouldn't be able to think about it till later in the year.
-
dont worry, GMC your memory isnt fading. Michael has just got things a little wrong. the PE 400 he mentions has a stock pipe with a special silver coating and a alloy muffler made by Stackers M/C

heres some DG heads for you if you go with the 350 top end

a bit expensive when you consider exchange rate and shipping i think i may leave it standard but someone had some barrells and heads and from what i hear they are a big improvement so maybe i should give them ago thanks Michael. :)
-
A "bit expensive" :o :o :o. Try 'frigging outrageous' :-[ for bling that will probably be have less performance than standard ::).

I agree, motocarrera machine the stock heads with a more modern profile and it does wonders for performance spread and it's a darn site cheaper too.
-
if all dg heads cost that much i will have to go stock ones even machined but i think i seen some like $200 us one time but still i dont like to buy o/s unless i really need it i cant really justify buying heads if they are outrageous because the stock ones are fine and work and i had it running and it sounded very good but my exhausts are rusty and a bit dinged so fairly expensive to get redone i would reckon thanks for the advice even though i would never have bought those at that price thanks Michael. :)
