Title: RM125X vs RM125Z CDI & Coil
Post by: Tex on April 17, 2009, 10:15:12 pm
Does anyone know if a CDI & coil combo from an RM125X will work ok on a RM125Z?

They are physically different, but I wonder if there is any actual difference in performance.

Any insight appreciated.

Thanks
Tex

Yeah they will work no problem whatsoever. There is no difference in performance at all.

The coils are different sizes and the X has an earth wire. You just need to earth that wire and adapt the frame bracket to accept the larger X coil.
and you will need to make a bracket to bolt the X cdi to.
its all an easy job.

Thanks RMJJ, much appreciated!

That's good news as I have a Z CDI but all the wires have been butchered.

I only have a spare PE175N coil at the moment, do you think this combo would work ok with the X CDI 'til I find an RM125X coil? It looks the same as the RM125 unit and all the wires match up nicely.

It seems to create spark ok too...

Coil is actually from a 1979 PE175, but I'd assume it'd be more or less the same?

Thanks for all the advice, I owe you a beer!

Yeah thats what I meant by those years. 1979 PE and 1981 RM

both use the same coil.  ;D
