I am new to this forum and VMX, but as I used to ride and race a PE175, I am interested in getting another for some VMX and Vinduro fun. Can anyone clarify for me please which models qualify for pre-78 VMX. I gather from the GCRs that later than 1977 models comply if that model was essentially unchanged.
So is it only the C model, or is the N model also eligible?
many thanks
Graham

so to be a follow on model it has to be the same bike essentially from the eligible pre 78 model. 77 model was 250B, so I would doubt it for the C/N 175. Also the C/N 250 as they were sub stantially updated.

NO PE175 is eligible for PRE 78. you would have to enter EVO
C is a 78 model and the class is PRE 78 model if it was pre 79 then yes you could ride the 78 model as its before 79 but its not so your limited to EVO
it goes by model, not manufacture date

Just to clarify your original query on C vs N and eligibility, there are only a handful of changes between the PE175C and the PE175N.
The obvious ones are the larger carb (32mm->34mm)and the snail-cam adjusters on the swing-arm. The magneto/flywheel was microscopically different, the CDI curve was changed and the muffler was better. The 175C/N was based upon the RM125A frame and shocks and used 125C engine bits.
You will be very hard-pressed to tell them apart visually or mechanically. I have ridden both in stock form and unless you are at 10/10th's they are pretty much the same bike.
1st April 1979 was when NSW forced the blinkers/stop light to be mandatory, so you got the battery box and extra trickle-charge coil.
