Now THAT looks like fun! :o

That pic reminds me of something really strange I did about 15 years ago. I've always been into dirt tracker/supermotards for the street, and in the mid 80s I had an XT500 with dirt track wheels etc that I used to rip around town on. In 1994 I built another one, sadly influenced by too much reading Performing Berks magazine. What the heck was I thinking?

wow.... were you on XTC.... your right Performance Berks had a lot to answer, but you had to love their project bikes.

The bike looks great but the colour

Yes... The colours were a bit off weren't they? It's OK, I got better and did a resto on it later that year:

yes distinct improvement. Like the PP headlight.

It's interesting looking back at that. I bought brand new front and rear guards and sidecovers from Yamaha, although couldn't get the decals. I made my own from contact and stick on letters and numbers. The PP headlight I think I found at a garage sale for $10. The seat was an easy find at a wreckers. Everything else I needed I got from Yamaha. Funny what 15 years does isn't it?
I still feel ill when I think that I carved up those sidecovers to make them look like that...
-
And so you should.............You heathen!
-
Yeah... but... it does give it a trimmer line doesn't it? ;)
I do like the look, but I do feel bad about wrecking NOS covers that a TT500 restorer would pay plenty for now!

With the original paint scheme it does look better. I really can't complain too much, mine have been cut.
I removed the bulges when I changed the shock mounts
