Title: Not strictly Vintage..............
Post by: Lozza on September 27, 2007, 07:35:05 pm
Have an RMX 250(98 model) engine build on and getting the kick starter off is a real riddle
There is NO

Pinch bolt
Circlip
Retaining pin

The starter moves on the spline a little bit then stops, please help before I get the 6inch angle grinder out  >:(

Hands Lozza the stick welder

Looking on the parts fishe i can see the knuckle is held on by a centre bolt with a large head into the shaft. maybe check its the real kicker for it  or the obvious and check for damaged/bent splines

Got a manual pokey and the bolt is defiantly removed.Splines look OK so it's out with the 3 jaw puller

I cant see any other physical method of securing it mate. all that tells me is perhaps a slightly worn spline thats catching. The puller could be the way to go.
all shall be revealed when she is off. perhaps a slight turn  to the front to clear any step that has worn into it.

Just use the puller Lozza to force it off** my KTM had the same problem, the splines burr themselves over with vibrations which lets them move a little but not come off.

**if something breaks when you force it don't blame me :)
