Hi there have a TS185 ERwith starting issues. I've never had it start normally with a kick, only when I chucked some fuel down the plug hole. Took to an engineer mate for analysis who's a right big fella and he could kick it up within 3/4 kicks. Short of taking steroids whats the solution ;D. I think the bike is "borderline" in some area. The compression reads 100psi (throttle WFO) isn't this kinda on the lower limit?
Thanks in advance.

I bought a second hand ER some years back with 7000 k's on the clock and It would take 20-30 kicks to fire up. I bought a carb kit on eBay, stripped the carb and soaked it in acryllic thinners for a few hours, reassembled it and it became a 2-3 kick starter from then on.

Yes, have stripped the carb and blown through passages.Carb also Ok when put on my other TS. Ignition gives same values as the running one too...

100 PSI is very low should be 160 +

buy a new o/size piston/rings and give it a rebore it will do wonders for it!
TT5 Matt

crank case seals probably need to be done. As soon as i did that, a rebore and went through the carby on mine is a 2nd kick starter when cold.

hard starting can also be due to a defective reed valve or maybe even the petals jammed slightly open by dirt or grit depending what country you are in ;) sounds like it may need the treatment TT5 Matt mentioned above to bump the compression back up to where it should be ;)

Thanks for comments -an update. My other {red :( }TS185 starts Ok and being curious checked the comp -psi is 90-100 on that. Put new rings in the "reluctant" one -no change on psi. I know seals are Ok cos I just did them.Still wouldn't start.Went back to it a day or so later after using the carb on red TS and bingo! ;D. It now starts 1st kick w/choke and I've been riding it all afternoon.
Well pleased but jesus these ol bikes are beyond me... Are they all female by any chance? ???
