Hoping the illness thing works out for your family Dave,
best wishes and good luck with the sale.
-
some one put a figure on the bike
-
20 - 30K AUD, ::) who knows at the moment, pricing is all over the place on a lot of good toys, the arse fell out of the toy box
-
sorry BTW Dave also all the best on the illness, I feel for you having to sell.
best regards Marc

PRice ? dEPENDS on wether folks fall into the TM 400 trap in regard to motor feedback and right it off as not a great ride.
Completely differant bikes though, ITs one on its own, so it needs to be looked at for what it is, a peice of history and one of probally 5 in the world, if they get there head round that and they have the coin it will make reserve.
if you seen daves bikes you know he only keeps the best, and inside they're good enough to eat off. ( so to speak)
Who ever or where ever buys it, will be getting a Top unit.
-

the real pity is it is likely to end up in a museum and probably not even an Ausralian one. Exchange rate makes it attractive to US or Japanese market.
-
woo hoo I am the highest bidder so far, can almost see it in New Zealand ;D

Hey, now there's an idea.....I should put in a bid and I always be able to say "I almost owned a factory works bike but got outbid at the last moment" ;D.
-
I'm one very blessed fella as Mr Tanner very kindly let me cut some laps of Nudgee on this very bike ;D I could never in my wildest dreams afford it but eh..I do know what it rides like and it rides like nothing else ;D
Best wishes as always Dave to you and yours.
-
sorry you mean the factory works bike that I almost own at the moment ;D
you can say I once put the deposit on an RN400.
-
good luck with the sale dave
hope everything works out for you
cheers rusty :)
-
Interesting mmmmmm indeed ;)

Dave
Are you selling the RH250 as well?
-
Hope you get good money to help you guys out and let's hope the bike stays in Australia for all to enjoy and certainly not locked away in you know who's collection of mothballed speculator items inside old bike crates (very sad!) - that RN is too nice not to be seen out and about!
Dave Mac
-
Would I sell the RH? I hope not, with all the VMX action it and I have done I would hope that my son will end up with that along with the 53 Velo I have. The RH and I are really close but that said what selling the RN is all about is similar to renting a house, you never really own anything, you only lease it for the time its in your posession.

-
mmm...wonder what my house is worth in the current financial fiasco..prolly not as much as the RN :D being cynical as I really wish! :'( ::)

Surprised I'm writing this as I'm an addict hoarder of others trash and treasure :o
But I do agree,we are only rebuilding, renovating, leasing, borrowing and looking after these possessions for the next.
stay well :) Alison

Dave will no doubt be able to confirm...but to say that there are only 5 in the world..there were 5 on the west side of the island in the '70's...along with NZ and the Old dart..they were probably more around than people realise.. That said still very rare....
-
a lot of treasures are coming out at the moment, much better most other things in your portfolio. Good luck with the RN, I might make a deposit.

1974 Ducati 750SS (otherwise known as greenframes) - $80K + and my old girl is staying with me till I die. I've got another one that has always been considered a super fund to help out the kids one day but like most of my shed it's still in the kit bike stage, lol !
Right now the banks can stick their shitty interest rates and I'm not playing Russian Roulette with shares I know zip about so bikes have it in my book.
Good luck to all bidders on the RN
Dave Mac ;)
-
quite a few Manxs for sale at the moment and other interesting bikes, cars, like anything else they will be worth less and hader to sell. Of course there is always the option of geting the Chinese to copy the RN400 and making a bomb in the replica market.
-
REPRODUCED
Here is a question for you...... :o ???
Would you buy one ???
or stay faithful to the cause ???
Now you wouldn't (hopefully buy a cheap helmet ::) ) so would you buy a cheap reproduction bike ???
Alison

????????????????????? STAY TRUE, OR STRAY, WELL MY FEELINGS ABOUT VINTAGE RACING IS THAT A RIDER SHOULD DRESS TO SUIT THE ERA .

I wish, like anyone with an HL project you find it is easy to build an expensive reproduction bike ;D

At 16,988 hope someone pushes it out to 17,000 or 18,000 for him .

I maybe messed up the question of reproduction bikes here-On another topic it was said the Manx Nortons are now getting made again-I'd be staying with a real 70's era job myself 8) if I was in for a buying spree :P
cheers alison
-
Manx's, AJS, Gilera and a few others have been replicated, there are all sorts of arguments for and against replicas, in the case of Manx Nortons the replicas do all the winning because they are pretty well re engineered in the process of being replicated, however, the number of original bikes that people are 'prepared' to race is shrinking as they gain in value, the replicas bought a lot more competitors.
Not everyone is like Dave and prepared to race the hell out of their RN400, most likely it will end up in a 'collection' some place given its value.
-
I missed the end - what was the result - did it make reserve? If so who got it?
cheers
Rossco
-
Reserve not met at just under $17000.
-
funny market right now, but bet it easier to get your money out of an RN400 than it is out of a power boat, custom Harley or a number of other toys ;D
the RN400 is a true once in a life time chance

not sure about VMX Alison but certainly classic bike road racing got a boost when the replica bikes particulalrly Manx's hit the scene, in the UK even big name racers, Gardener, Sheene were attracted to race bikes by the big classic teams, not sure this would have happened with only original bikes were available, as I think you would struglge to find owners prepared to beat the shit out of their classic Manx or MV for that matter. New Zealand and OZ also benefitted from having McKintosh Nortons available.
replicas can make a lot of sense in some cases, like HLs where there are limitless spare engine parts and you can afford to give it hard time, as opposed to other older VMXers that have become a drama to find for example gear boxes for (73 CR250s, early YZs).

thats good- ::) had me worried there for a while, :o thought I hadn't seen any new reproduction VMX bikes around in the pits.
When do you think they will be on the market ??? ,if people are going to start collecting and not using what they have already got. :-\

Some replicas are available now. I guess the nearest thing to a true complete replica are the 74 CCMs that are being offered in the UK, which run to about 25000 AUD for 2 valve. Or the Maico 490s in the UK.
The 4 stroke specials are well represented in the replica stakes, Geoff can sell as many GMC kits as he can weld, you can still buy a new C&J XR frame, the Brits still produce Curtis and various BSA frames. Have yet to see an RH250 replica but I know some parties building one.

I presume they have the same performance as a real one. ;D ::) ..any pictures ? Any riders out there in the big world of VMX that can confirm. ?
thanks Alison
-
I THINK ABOUT REPLICA BIKES FOR SOME YEARS NOW, HAVE EVEN ASK GEOFF MORRIS, TO BUILD BULTACO MK 7 FRAMES AND MAICO FRAMES SOME TIME AGO, THE JAP`S WILL BUILD AS LONG THEIR IS A DOLLARS IN IT OR MARKET FOR IT. THE CHINESE WILL BE THE ONES TO COPY, AS LONG AS THEY REPLICATE THE ORIGINAL. BOLT FOR BOLT.

as I mentioned generally the performance is better than the original as there is a chance to re engineer both with modern materials and that racing over years gives a chance to identify known weakness.

The below GMC frame is based on a copy of the originals :o ??? that the same GMC here on this forum-or is it a franchise kind of set up etc. ???
Cheers alison ;D
-
nah Geoff welds too slow to multi francise, but what you get is well worth the wait. Most of the kit frames are made by individuals and you have to be patient.

WELL ITS WORTH A LOT, IF YOU SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL VINTAGE FELLOWS, WHO ARE TRYING TO MAKE A BUCK AND HE SUPPORTS THE VINTAGE MOVEMENT, IT WORKS BOTH WAYS.
THANK YOU

Umm err yeah Alison that's me.
Are you interested in a franchise? I still have one vacancy left in your suburb. ;D
Of course you will have to pay a huge fee for the franchise, pay me most of the profits, then buy the Franchise off me again in 5 years.
Their are many advantages to be had with a GMC Franchise, allthough they are mostly to do with me riding more often ::)

OK ! I am not blonde ! here me... I am not blonde.. ;D,,,Are you saying that you are the only GMC frame fellow on the planet, that I have read about and seen on the internet system...and live very close to Broadford Vic.
This means we are truly very blessed and privileged to have you in our midst :o
You are our GOD of frames.
no.. yes

Awww shucks, yes tis me, the one & only Geoff Morris Concepts, not to be confused with some asian power tool company or american car manufacturer
-
So between Geoff and Alison I can get my cheap as dog shit 'hammer' drill repaired when it flies to bits !? It did come with a shitload of SDS drill bits which are holding up rather well tho..............
-
You know its funny , but when I visited GMC a few years back to drop a pipe in to be repaired , I envisaged a huge complex with forklifts running back & forth between the workshop & a big warehouse stacked to the rafters with frames & pipes etc . Instead , I found a one man operation in a modest corrogated iron shed . He does excellent work though & I consider his products to be works of art . I hope to get a lot more work done by him in the future .
-
Hey Husky,
That is just the illusion that Geoff likes to create.
Most of his stuff is actually made in China and airfreighted over in his personal Lear Jet. It then magically appears from the back of the shed into his customers hands to maintain the handmade mystique. He is the David Copperfield of Broadford.
Ah the joys of corporate success.
Good on you Geoff, keep the wheels turning.

Sure thing, invitation is open to anyone else that's wondering down this way, but be warned, if you want to talk about my problems then you should allow at least a week :o

Mark, I assume that tank is RN82? very nice!
-
RN83 by all accounts, yeah it is rare item ;D

That tank would look good on this bike...indeed it may have been FROM this bike. ::)

There Were Only Three Models Of The Husqvarna 500 Twin Built In 1969: A Road Racer, A Sidecar And An Offroad Bike; None Were Ever Put Into Production
By Tom White
The Husqvarna 500 twin began when Swedish road racer Bo Grannath persuaded Husqvarna engineer Ruben Helmin to graft two Husky 250 cylinders onto a single case. The prototype engine was finished in 1968. Husky test riders Rolf Tibblin and Torsten Hallman decided that the engine’s dimensions were too bulky for motocross, although in 1969 Gunnar Nilsson won the European FIM Cup on it. The European FIM Cup was a series developed for 501cc to 750cc engines as a way of keeping outmoded British four-strokes alive. Nilsson raced a 504cc version of the Husky twin and dominated the short-lived Championship. Nilsson‘s victory convinced American importer Edison Dye that the engine would be great for the Baja 1000. Husky rebuilt one of the road race engines to 492cc, and Malcolm Smith, Carl Berggren, Gunnar Nilsson and J.N. Roberts rode the 302-pound twin to Baja victory.
Dye requested 100 Baja Invader five-speed twins to sell, but only ten engines were ever built (two for road racing and seven for sidecar racing). Husqvarna’s total run of offroad 500 twins was one bike. Why wasn’t the engine ever put into production? Gunnar Lindstrom said, “The four-speed gearbox was marginal, even on the 400cc single.”
The original 1969 Baja 1000 winner remained in Edison Dye's San Diego warehouse for three decades. In 1998 it was sold to Twin Air’s Frans Munsters, who meticulously restored the bike to its original specifications. Today, the supremely rare bike can be seen in the Early Years of Motocross Museum.
1969 HUSQVARNA BAJA INVADER 500 FACTS
WHAT THEY COST
Early Husqvarnas are much sought after by collectors. The starting price for this unique bike is well above $100,000. This one-off, twin-cylinder, Baja 1000-winning bike is without peer!
MODELS
Theoretically, there were three models of the Husqvarna 500 twin built in 1969: a road racer, a sidecar and an offroad bike. But, in truth, none were ever put into production.
WHAT TO LOOK FOR
From the side it looks like any other Husqvarna 250 Cross. From the front or top, you immediately notice the size of the engine. Two cylinders, two carburetors and the two-into-one pipe are the most notable features of the Baja Invader.
PARTS SUPPLY
John Lefevre at Vintage Husky, at (760) 744-8052, can supply pistons, rods and chassis hardware (since most of it is shared with the 250 Cross). Special components like the kick starter shaft, cases and ignition would have to be manufactured.

Which makes it expensive at 100 grand + but not the most expensive dirt bike
I would say 520 grand takes it, you could buy the whole production run of Huskie twins for that money.
