Bit like bathurst then JIm, if it not a V8 lets change the rules so it has to be, umm let me think of some of the cars that tore those shitful holden and ford V8 lumps back into the 19th century, Nissan skyline, Jags, RX7 ..................
I think that has killed the car industry here and in the states. Had they kept going with open racing you would have seen the developement of better and faster and ultimately more efficeint lighter smaller displacement cars and they had the chance many times to too head that way with Capri's, sierra's, LJ's, rotary and so on

Are you referring to the 'Harley only' races (I forget what they call the series)?
I understand the US crowds were dismal when the Jap bikes started winning everything.
Few people (Americans) were interested in regularly seeing that and deserted the stands.
I believe it was an economic decision to get the crowds back and fill the seats!
The good ol' boys love watching loud American muscle.
