Is the April meet at Broadford running a class for twins. Are they organising races? I have (with help ) built an XS650 based bike to replace my Honda and would like to give it a run but if no races are organised it may be a waste of time.Firko will be glad to hear it has been put together using pre-70 parts so eligible for same. I plan to take it to DT nats later in year - may prove unusable, we will see.

Have you got any pics 52?
Cheers,
Steve

i rode herb conlons pre 70 xs650 last year in a couple of races at nepean when my bike was out of action and i found it handled ok as long as i remembered i was just a passenger on the monster!. allan attard handles herbs other xs650 really well but he's a muscular lad. i believe fitting a 21 on the front makes things easier cheers wally.

650 ? ;) pete ;D

yep, will post picture nxt wk. tank getting painted. looking for somewhere to ride it. motor has a lot of monies spent-hope it doesn't go the same way as the XL, just sent cam away this wk-took me til now to face it.
-
Wally, will you talk to Herb about gearing he has used and how hot the mtr was, thanks peter lee

I would probably think just park the big thing and look at it pete to save the frustration. How on earth are you going to stop the monster. Golden Wheels series at Griffth Pines Speedway on the 21 st March bring it there big run off area at the end of the straight ;D

Be fine pete even to a 750 kit it wont go the same way as the xl, not enough revs to get the same bounce.
My money is on leaving the motor on the cool side and tuning that frame in. ;)

A bit late to build cool mtr kerry, already over 750, rephased, cammed, ported, high comp,36 mikunis on fuel, ect. Anyone that out-gates it better watch out its gunna take some stopping when wound up. Interesting reading the US flat-track frame discussion. In the mid 70's when a few turned up here it was and always will be the calibre of the rider that mattered (chris kelly would thown a Tm400 sideways and made it look easy).seeya

GEe Pete your never one to stuff about are you. Sounds great, i looked at building up a show trackmaster XS a while back but most of the bits i needed where in florida and transporting never got it to work, since found some of the bits and contacts i wanted to make the project interesting enough to start, like the trick side cases and other worksy stuff. ;)
One thing i do remember was the only down side they US guys made on the XS was the stock diameter of the flywheel, those that overcame that got traction and outstomped the XR's, if they sat on the small spinner they couldnt get the tourque to the ground. might be somthing to follow up. On a big track you would be unstoppable. Good choice. You going for the full glass ? or are you on the stock frame ?
i know your sorted but if you need bits out the Us give us a yell i had some contacts that build XS and seem to hord all the parts and knowledge, bitches ;D
send me some pic's !

thanks 52X , a mate of mine built the bike up using the dimentions of my 350 twin.He used XS1 frame changed triple trees and swing arm and altered rear section. He and I have had XS's forever and have collected a fair bit of stuff. The rephase of the engine hopefully will help with traction (it's effectively a V-twin now) we have done our roadies, they sound neat.No its not gunna looklike a US style flat - tracker.I didn't go that way cause unless you use 19'' front it never looks right. My son might figure out how to put picture on.
