Title: Camden Show and Shine - who's in?
Post by: magoo on February 21, 2009, 10:02:49 am
OK guys, who's coming to the big Charity Show and Shine in Camden next Saturday, 28th February? As you probably know, the event is being put on to raise some money for our mate Rob Wager and his family after the horrendous fire which destroyed his workshop and livlihood. Let's get as many of us punters and our bikes over to Camden Bike and Power to support a brother who has fallen on tough times through no fault of his own.

We've already had some positive feedback from the Sydney VMX community with support coming from many of this forums regulars, along with VMX Magazine, KTM Australia, VMX Plastics as well as the good ol' boys at Klub Levlar. Jeff Leisk has also got on board by signing a Honda CR500 front number plate to be auctioned. The plan at this stage is to have any special auction items on display at the Show and Shine, and then put them on ebay so as to give anyone who can't make it next week a chance to participate as well, but also an on-site auction for some more items like KTM umbrellas, shirts, caps etc.

As for confirmed entries, we have Darren Hill with his 2 beautiful YZ Yamahas, Husky67 with a couple of the most beautiful Huskies on the face of the planet, Firko is bringing the Ducati, Maico and DT1, and I'll be bringing my ME360 Mugen and '83 CR250 to display.

The Show and Shine will feature classes as per normal race meeting eg: Best Evo, Pre '85, Pre '65 etc with prizes for each class. We'd be stoked if we could get as many of the community to support this event both by participating and in donating items to Auction by world renowned auctioneer el Firko himself.

As well as raising some much needed funds to assist Rob in rebuilding his life, it'll be a great chance for the VMX Community to get together for a good old fashioned pre season bench race and give us a chance to lair off our garage queens without the pressure of a race environment. To make this work, we'll need your support. We'd like some sort of idea on who's coming so put up a post or PM me so we can work out what we'll need next Saturday. 2 things that come to mind would be a PA and a large table, can any of you guys help out there?

I'll be sponsoring the best Pre '85 class by supplying a trophy so if anyone else want to donate a trophy and sponsor a class feel free to contact me.

Cheers boys, see you next Saturday.

Magoo...I will be there with a YZ 465

I will bring my truck. It has a 5 mtr x 2.5 mtr tray on it. Perfect for Firko to stand on to do his auctioneering.

Is it kickoff at 10 am?

Hi Mr Magoo,

I'll be attending with a selection of Bullies and maybe a Honda...

Red Devil Racing will donate a selection of t-shirts in generous sizes to be sold on the day, let me know if you have any preferences.

Cheers,
Mark

Magoo we will also be there with some of the garage queens, Cooper MX and maybe a full set XR75's and a CR250 red devil, also a Yamaha and Suzuki RM.

Cheers

Things are progressing well for this Saturdays Show and Shine with a good array of entries so far. In case anyone isn't aware, Camden Bike and Power is on the corner of Camden Valley Way and Edward streets, right in Camden Town itself. Anyone who has a bike to display is asked to arrive at 10:00 - 10:30 for an 11:00am start. Judging will be carried out throughout the day with presentation of awards at 2:00pm.

We're hoping to do the auction at midday.

Forecast is for a fine and sunny day, VMX Magazine have offered 2 subscriptions and the entries are pouring. Lokks like being a good day for all.

All sounds good, it could turn out to be a successful, season-opener type of annual event, with maybe a different 'cause' each year.

What will I take......Beta, Phantom, CZ or KX, KX, KX?

Regards

Ken

Haven't been here for a while and look what's top of the list when I do. Thank you. We wanted to visit and meet everyone this weekend, but we just can't get there on the current budget.
Everyone have fun and enjoy it. If anyone has a video camera we'd love to see some of the "action". Thanks Magoo and all the helpers and participants.

Not sure what happened at the end of the thread???? But Ted can I give you a call to say thanks?

OK...I`ll clear it up

I think that the term punter is derogatary to use when appealing for people to attend a charity/fundraising event...thus my post

Alison took exception to my post and responded and i replied. I wish to publicly say sorry to Alison

RED DEVIL...Definitely not a Forum copper and like yourself i am also looking forward to tomorrow and to helping somebody less fortunate than ourselves.

If you still do not have a big table my truck is available

All I'm going to say about this one is I've never known anyone to take exception to being called a punter, how the fork is that a derogatory term. If that was the worst thing I've ever been called I'd be a happy man. I think it is rediculous that even when we are all pulling together to help a mate out someone finds something to be negative about, I don't get it.

I achieved what i intended from the start and that was to keep THIS thread at the top of the charts.

Who in their right mind would question the integrity of the organiser of such an event.

The best advertising is controversy

Lets go punters one and all

I wasn't able to make it,  as I had someone picking up a bike,  but if anyone is onsite or already arrived home and can post some ammatuer pics would be great!  (by ammatuer,  I mean I guess the organisers may have photo rights, no offense intended) Cammos

Husqvarna 360 viking takes major prize in show and shine.

the owner breezes in ten minutes before judging and scopes the prize , you gotta love those Huskies.

Lots of very nice bikes on show.

Bike of the day (IMHO) apart from the Husky was a 1979 yz 250 yamaha. (very low use and very nice)

The day finished with some Refreshments at the Narrellen hotel  .

Listen up all you punters

What a great effort from the VMX community. Although low in bike numbers ( 30 / 40 ) the quality of material was first rate. XR 75, tt, cooper, yamaha, cr, yz, mugen, ducati, ossa,cz,beta, norton, husky

The hat was passed around and everybody gave their all

The passing public that dropped in were impressed with what they saw and the guys i spoke with were either restoring or keen to get contact numbers for their bits

After proceedings we adjourned to the local to shoot the breeze with Magoo, Ken , EEAW, Rob, Mr Upstate, Firko and mate and Mr Cooper ( sell me one of your hoard ) apologies to those i missed. I`m sure if Magoo didn`t have to go and get messy in the city tonight he would have blown the top off a few more. We also learnt that there is a guy in western sydney ( that chucks wheelstands ) that has 2 trophys that don`t belong to him...haha.What a story

I also learnt Darren cannot say no to a schooner

So why does someone buy a bike and ride it just 3 times in 35 years?

The MX Cooper I had at the show had been stored in a shed in Perth WA since it was new (31yrs) and was never used, I have owned it 5 yrs, it is still not used only for shows ;)

Sorry guys. I've been away for the last few days so haven't had a chance to catch up. Saturday to me was a real success, the guys turned up with some beautiful quality bikes and it was interesting to see how many locals stopped to have a look. They seemed genuinely interested in what was on show. There certainly could have been more bikes but the quality was superb. I'd reckon that this type of event is a perfect way to launch the VMX season so I'd reckon this one certainly won't be the last.

As for the auction, the DeCoster and Leisk number plates will be going up on ebay tomorrow as well as a few other odds and ends.
