Title: C&J XR500 color scheme
Post by: Marc.com on February 20, 2009, 07:26:58 pm
quick opinion poll, do I paint it red or do the Mugen thing and make it white.

So far it is 2 votes for Mugen white with nickel frame and 3 votes for red.

I like red. I'm sure it will be beautiful in any colour, just make sure to send me some pics when it's done! ;D

Also if you could please send some of the frame when you have stripped it, some detailed, as many as possibe. I still have the XR/CR C&J-replica in the back of my head ;)
Thanks

Well as I have NOS M Robert euro style red rear guard and clean red tank in stock looks like the reds might win. I have really bombed XR540 motor, be interesting to try that baby out.

It was Honda CR not Husqvarna CR this time....

I just like to mess around with the grinder and welder :)

You need to use that rearfender with numberplates, and polished alu triangel sidecovers...

hey XR into CR has been done before, come on Ola how about XR into something blown up and European. Most have been done (KTM, MAico) Gilera ?????

Yep those little Italian bikes need some grunt. Guess you can do a Curtis style XR with  Husky frame, it is just an HL with another motor dropped in it and you alreday have one to copy.

Marc, The bike is owned by an American mate of Firkos, Mike Middleton. Old time vintage racers will remember him coming out here for the '92 Nats with his beautiful BSA Metisse on which I believe he won the pre '65 class. Firko passed the photos along to me so I know FA about them.

Yes, it will also be easier sice I don't have to make an oil-tank/oil in frame setup.

The Honda engine is a newer design and much easier to work with in regard to size and mounting options, after your HL it will be a too easy. Are you going to keep the lower frame cradle or do the same mounts as C&J / XR500.

Latest issue of VMX magazine has a replica C&J which is pretty much bang on and really nice job. I have my Daytona head TT motor, WB swing arm, Simons forks sitting about, just wondering what frame to chop up next (RM400)  ;D

.

It's just something I'm thinking about, no plan yet. I would like it to be more C&J, without framecradle, therefore a RedRocket frame. If it where to be a Curtis-replica a HVA frame would be best.
I like the C&J replica in the latest VMX, apart from the sidecovers and huge muffler...

But I have to finish my HL, then there's a -78RM with DR400 engine waiting. And about 15 bikes waiting for a resto....

Yep on the HL its all about gtting the side covers right. Anyway for my C&J I am running the twin mufflers off 2006 CRF250, should be tidy exhaust. Will look a bit more factory finished that a few inches of exhaust piping with a super trap hanging off it.

thanks for that it is interesting, wonder what $650 is in adjusted terms today, probably was pricey at the time. Like the enduro treatment, thats worth considering.

Current state of project. Still looking for Mugen exhaust header or someone to fabricate a repro.
Megaphone is original, ex Al Baker.

Too nice, not to update with a current photo.
Why does the Allan West photo drop out?
