Title: Hinged gear lever for old XL ?
Post by: MX? on February 20, 2009, 09:52:54 am
Would anyone know if you can put a hinged gear lever on a '74 XL? I know that a lot of makes and models used similar splined gearshafts. Not even sure what models came out with the hinged variety  :-\.  Maybe it's a matter of fronting up to the wreckers and trying things.
One way or the other I'm going to need a new lever anyway, so might as well go for a hinge......not that I'm going to fall off ...just as a precaution.  ;D

I run an XR400 folding tip gear lever on my Yammie MX250, take your XL gear lever to the wreckers, find a gear shaft it fits on and use that to try a bunch of second hand ones (If your wreckers good he's labeled what each one came off) then buy a new aftermarket one to suit.
