I have read the information on the Gold Star in MOTOCROSS RACERS 30 Years of Legendary Dirt Bikes ,so after a bit of history info..........
My question may not be answered but just wondering how many where made and how many are in Australia,or are they rockin horse poop items.
Suppose the first place to look would be the engine number on the brother-in-laws. ::)
any help would be appreciated.
cheers

They (Goldstars) are rare and highly desirable. i know several people who are looking for one/trying to get parts. i was told buy someone who is building a sort of goldstar replica that there is someone/or a shop who has uncovered a HUGE stock of NOS goldstar parts from US and has brought it over here. Stuff like NOS tanks and NOS engines (but its being sold off fairly quick). i think Murrays Brit Bikes/SA Brit Bikes in Adelaide may be involved some how or at least know who has all this Gold star stuff and is selling it.
if you can get me the engine number i should be able to tell you what that is.

there are 2 types of gold star the proper ones pre unit ie engine and gearbox seperate pre 65 racers a dbd 34 should cost you between 15k and 25k depending on the resto.then there is tne b50 type unit construction pre70 racers.if i wanted to own a goldy it would be a dbd34 full of bling dowd stuff and a lyter allo tank.they are one of the best looking bikes in my opinion
cheers

if its a dbd 33 it is a 350 gold star a proper one.much better than those b50 bsas.

When I was in NZ on holidays a few years ago , I went to a vmx meeting near Auckland to spectate & took a few photos of this BSA powered Cheney (& a few other bikes as well ). I can't remember if it was a Gold Star motor . I spoke to the owner & he said something about Eric Cheney making only a small number of frames to suit Gold Star motors back in the day , but a lot more replica frames later on .

BSA Gold Stars - the real ones, are - DBD32 - 350cc & DBD34 - 500cc.
Then there are the B31 - 350cc and B33 - 500cc - these are the standard road bikes, but easily modified to go fast.
I may be wrong(usually am, they all say), but I don't think there was a DBD33.
