Title: MR175
Post by: YUMASTEPSIDE on July 29, 2007, 09:18:37 am
As you can probably tell from my posts over the last few months, I have an unnatural obsession with a piss poor little bike called an MR175!
If anyone has one (or more ) of these little beasties ,let me know, as I'm thinking of starting a register of sorts.
So, if you have one ,know of one, saw one, heard of one or know of a bloke who had a mate who heard of a bloke who thought he saw one,let us know!!!

I have a mate in Qld who's into these things. He has at least one concourse resto, another pretty close to that, and a pile of other bits n spares. I'll ask him if he's interested and pass on his details if so.

I had another mate who raced one in enduros in SEQ in the late 70s. I rode it and loved it, what a fun little machine. Pretty average suspension, but it went OK, light as, and steered pretty damn fine.

I threw this together to check what parts I needed.

I've still got a box of bits to go through but all I seem to be missing is the original headlight and number plate (light in pic is IT400) and an undamaged side cover (same as CR250 )

Bin a long time since I've seen one of those. Looks like a very practicle bike, specially in heavy going in thick scrub. Looks nice and light, maybe 95KG? You could use it for MX as well as a trip round town on Sunday morning.

have a mr 175 in the shed, still going and been ridden, when i get drunk and stupid. it still has the speedo and tail light and goes pretty strong for a bike 32 years old. there is also one down the road from the farm we own, but it has no lights or speedo. the guy who owns it uses it as a motocrosser. anyway just letting you know there is still some around.

.........thanks Doc, but I've got four of the buggars now, what I really need is an original headlight, taillight and speedo.........the real unobtainium.
At the moment I'm fitting all the gear from one of them to a '77 CR frame so I can get a bit more height, for my 6' 3" , its like riding a mini bike  ;D ;D ;D

Went over to my mate's place (I mentioned him earlier in the thread) to check out some of his bikes. The MR175 project hasn't progressed much in build terms, but he's been slowly gathering more parts. I think he started collecting NOS parts about 10-15 years ago, and he has a bit of a treasure trove all intended to go into restoring his MRs. He has one which will be a garage queen, and one that'll be a rider.

I don't think there's much he hasn't got so the garage queen bike will be as good as new when it's finished. I've asked him to send me the pics when it gets done so we can all have a look.

I don't think too many people dig the little MR, but in my book it's a brilliant little jigger. They looked pretty damned cool for a Jap enduro bike of the time (76/77 or so I think).

If anyone else has restored one of these it'd be great to see some piccies on here!

Well, if anyones interested I am about to list a 1977 MR175 on evilbay. It has the original tail-light, speedo and headlight ;D, replica seat cover, original guards and controls with new dust covers. Tank is tidy and is MINT inside. New Uni airfilter. Its a rider but needs bearings etc. Generally very original and doesn't look bad at all.
Also comes with a spare engine, 2 new spoke kits, 2 pairs new brake shoes, spare frame, new c/s sprocket, 2 pairs of forks and a factory workshop manual.
Pics can be provided (once I get a moment of daylight!).
  $1600 gets it.
