Bultacos have always impressed me. Not their power or steering but the way their engines have a mirror finish. I was at Don Newell's place last year when a Bully engine had just got back from the polishers. As soon as I saw it I asked Don if it was a new engine, but of course it was not. I guess I am like a fish attracted to shiny objects.
CZ cases and covers can also reflect a bit of light when they are given the chance.

Ignintion cover before

Clutch cover before.

The ignition case is next.
-
The next case cover to get polished.
Not a mirror finish but good enough for a race bike.
Next stage is a bit more polishing and then it will get a clear coat.
These surfaces not only look good but are easy to clean.

Hi Ji, where do you (or Don Newell) get your work done?
-
Hi Billjackjane,
I don't know who Don uses for his polishing but he does a great job. Give Don a call he will let you know, just don't ring before 9.00am or between 11.30am to 1.00pm week days. Be kind to him, he is one of our legends.
The next time I went back to Don's the engine was in a rolling chassis and the engine looked even better in its proper surround. Don was fiddling with the ignition system under his carport when I noticed the rims. Mirror finish, blemishless, Akront rims. They were so bright I had to get down on both knees and gaze upon their majesty. I said "Hey Don where on Gods earth did you find a pair of new rims" and he replied "They are not new they just come back from the polishers, you can spend a lot of money on wheels" Since then I have rebuilt Maico and CZ wheels and found out he was right.
As for me I do my own. Very satisfying. It is not as hard as you would think. It does take a bit of time but once done it takes not a lot of effort to keep it that way.
As I said not a mirror finish but pretty close.

The attached images are of a Maico rear rim that I polished last year.
The bike has seen a few race tracks now but the rims still look the same.

Maico rim after the Ji Gantor treatment.

what rims are they and did you have them re rolled before you polished
-
Hi Paul,
They are off my Maico MC250 1977.
They were polished, clear coated and trued.
They spin like new, no wobbles or flat spots.
What is re rolled?
How much does that cost?
Where do you get that done?
What is the benefit?
Ji

its my way off saying what you have done really

My Bad,
Sorry mate

No, when I restore a bike I want it to look and work like new.

I don't know how many beach babes come from the Gold Coast to see VMX racing, but I don't think it is as many as you think.
There are some tidy daughters and wives that attend and a few GIRLS ON THE GAS, but I am usually to busy to check them out. Besides my wife would not be happy with me.

Hi VMX247 or should it be VMXFOX,
I will continue posting images of the CZ as I restore her.
I have never had photo image support of the bikes I have restored but I know how valuable it would be for those about to embark. As we know a lot of parts on our bikes now are not original but made to work. This is confusing to those that don't know better. An image of a part can solve so many questions.
I hope you like the end result.
I am thinking of powder coating the frame red, the swingarm silver (to look like alloy) the shocks, rims, hubs and handlebars gold and it will be fitted with a 1974 tank that will be polished alloy.

The engine is made from aluminium and over the years the metal has absorbed filth and corroded. The first thing to do is to plug all the openings so foreign particles don't find their way into the gear box or combustion chamber. Next degrease the engine.
Now the engine is free from oil we can start erasing 30 years of neglect.
You don't need many tools for this job just time and patients.
