Title: Plug reach
Post by: bigk on February 06, 2009, 02:44:58 pm
Can anyone tell me what reach plug to use in an '81 KTM390 please?
It has an ES/EV series in it and ran fine, but the plug hangs through into the combustion chamber heaps. I'm thinking the threads will carbon up and make the plugs a pain to change and risk damage to the thread in the head. Should I use a HS (shorter reach)plug? My NGK book is obscure at best in the applicetion.
Cheers,
K

Do not want to question your knowledge of KTMs Dennis
but would you like to think about that again,
B9ES (19)has a longer thread than B9HS (12.7)

Lots of times I go to great lengths to sink the plug into the head like that. ;)

It's the ES series that hangs through heaps and is what was in the bike. HS series sit nicely.I want to have the correct plug in the bike as I don't want to have any dramas.

I always understood it was the B8ES or B9ES.
We use the B8 up here, (1000m altitude), and it works really well.

Time to go read the manual in bed again
