Title: KX want start
Post by: Hornet on February 05, 2009, 09:22:15 am
I wanted to go for a blast coming weekend with the boys , but my  KX want start . It ran nice till now .
I washed and polished it , thats all . The bloke across the road , a tree surgeon that plays with chainsaws all the time ,came last night to have look .
Its got fuel , it has spark . He even tried to push start it . All we got out of it , was a bang. Thats all , what could it be ?

Sometimes my little kx125 is like that and it goes after I disconnect the fuel line and let it run a bit then reconnect it to the carbi so it must be a bit of an airlock on mine.

You said you washed it, any chance you got water in behind the stator cover or in the other electics??
if so undo the stator cover and give it a good spray with wd40 or crc.. and try to push or roll start down a hill

Years ago i had an RM125 rode it and put it in the shed, the next day i got it out and it wouldn't go.
It had fuel and could see some spark from the plug, all it would do is pop every now and then trying to push start it....
Turned out the stator coil needed to be rewound

Good luck

water in the fuel, water in the carb, water in the air filter, i know it is stating the obvious but did you drain carb bowl, fuel etc.

if the fuel is ok, change the spark plug and make sure the lead is in the spark plug cap properly..
this is going to be a process of elimination  ;)

If you got another plug, just try it to rule it out.
Sometimes a fouled plug will spark when you crank the motor but isn't strong enough to run the motor.

how old is the fuel and what fuel are you using? premium or high octance fuel will go stale in float bowl fairly quickly and can make starting impossible unless you drain it.

Maybe pull out the plug, give it a lot of kicks this should clear any moisture from the crankcase, then throw a capfull into the bore, put in the plug and kick it like virgin silky terrior being forked by a great dane. Has this bike got good compression?
Good luck

Did the exact same thing at a pony express after having everyone try to push start my cr 500 for an hour and a half remembered the  rag in the air filter!!!!! The worst part was the rag was a bright pair of undies, pulled out in front of a big crowd  of helpers by this stage!!!!! Was definetely my shout at the bar at the end of the day!!!!

Glad you sorted it out, as you found out air is as important as fuel and spark!!!
Happy Riding

Just back in from riding , done 3 laps and I was buggered . The bike runs well again , my rear end felt a bit strange , but that could be the heat . Not many people out there today. I think I will give it a wash now . ... No , I will not forget the rag this time  :D
