i was given this frame no and i cant find it 251 0737

My '81 GS 490 frame number starts with 251. They don't list the '81 GS 490 numbers on the Maico madness guide, probably because most of the 490's sold in the USA were MCs.

Paul - the reed barrel alone is worth big bucks - and I mean BIG bucks in the region of $1500 to $2000 if it went world wide on evilbay. GS based (which it is) or not $5K + as it stands.
It will almost definitely have a 'roundback' frame which is less likely to break under harsh riding but I am not sure about what appears to be two huge gusset plates welded under the seat area for the usual rear shock stress points.
Try and get the Commer van thrown in, lmfao !!!
