Title: XR250
Post by: YUMASTEPSIDE on January 25, 2009, 03:46:11 pm
This is not exactly VMX, but I picked up this '89 XR-250 and I need the Honda experts to tell me what's been modified on it. The frame is plated '89 but this model had drum rear brakes and square side plates. I only paid $110 for it; I have the cam and rocker box, so I thought it wouldn't be a bad unit just for a trail bike.

you sure its not a 99 model? sometimes cables wear away the stamping on the compliance plate. it does not look like a 89 to me.

it sure is a 99 model with the red 2000 model tank.
brings back memories as i use to own one and raced it a few times in the old
thumper nationals and amcross series.
they are a really nice fun bike to ride...
and at $110 bucks its a bargain... :)
just gotta find the rest of the missing parts from the top end...

No Leith, definitely an '89,not a mark on the compliance plate, just like new.
I have all the top end gear ,it's just not on it at the moment.

The only odd thing about the comp. plate is the date   "    /89 "............no month   ????
It was upstairs at a local bike shop,to them it was just an " old bike that owed them $110 dollars "...........fine,works for me !!

well the bike looks like a 99/00 like Andrew says and it was my first impression as well. could someone put all that modern gear on a 89 frame ???

Serial number says its an '89,so it looks like someone has spent a lot of time mucking around changing parts ! All the better for me !!

Its an 89 model with 98 model seat, side plates and mud guards, I would try and see if a white 91 or 98 tank would fit to balance it out.

..............you wish !! The rear master cyl. bracket does look a bit homemade ,but its actually well done and been powdercoated along with the frame.
