We had a get together fun day and quickly marked out a track and this is one of the guys who turned up. I wonder if any of you guys know him or have seen him ride. Do you think you can name the parts to his bike. Oh and yeah he kicked our arses.
The M stands for Morley
-
I seen a bloke Morley Sherriffs kick a lot of arses about 35 years ago at Christmas Hills VIC in the mud ,very smooth and fast, no front mudgaurd on the day, didnt slow him a bit.
-
Thats him. And he is still kicking arse. That pic is about 2yrs old.
-
DJ I'll have a wild guess and say the bike is a PE175 with an XL250R tank and an XR200 engine and maybe RM125Z front wheel, although the lever shrouds on the bars look yamaha so maybe the front end is Yamaha ???? Actually I dunno..the seat frame and rear swingarm look zooki though :P I like it whatever it is 8)
by the way!..is that dust I see!! surely not! :D
-
Pretty relaxed style on Morley back then aye?
-
Great pic KB171, and yes thats Morley.
Doc, it was only Morley bringing up the dust. None of the rest of us could ride fast enough. But hey check out that green grass ;D
-
I hate to be pedantic forty years later but Morley's chucking his wheelie on a Triumph Metisse, not a CZ. Great photo though.
-
"How he do dat?", Yep, thats our Morley, he still very much does dat. At Kiwi Vintages series last year at Halcombe it was one of those dreaded Mud fests, I'd seen this guy turn up with an old fairly standard RT2 in the back of his truck & didn't think much more about it...that is untill I saw him in action & said with much enthusiasm "who the hell is that?". As someone once said "just oozing with talent".
-
Hey DJ i'm still waiting for the recipe for the bike ?. whats it made of the suspense is killing me .
-
Oh , sorry Hilly, Doc probably got it right, there were so many different bits to it and my memory just aint that good, just think of a few more bikes and add that to Doc's list. ;D. The next time I catch up with Morley I'll ask him. In fact we have our first round this weekend and TMBill, Mac, Eno and his son Jonah are all staying at my place so we will debate the bike then. ;D. Can you wait a few more days?
P.S.
I didnt get to look over the bike that day as I was riding and banging in pegs, taking photos and looked after the BBQ at lunch time, so I was a bit busy and Morley had to shoot off early so I missed him at the end of the day.
-
No worries DJ , i,m not so sure about the backend ,looks a bit KLX to me in the shocks & swingarm ,maybe !!!. Good to see ya keeping busy and keep posting those great pics from ya meetings . I loved that one of the YZ465 roosting the track .awesome.
-
Hilly if ya like roost, how about this one. I dont know if ya would want ta be behind it though.
A few Ozzies might recognise this rider (#1) doing what he does best. Leading the pack.
Murray Anderson

Both pics from the first VMX North V's South meeting
-
Awesome DJ that looks like a lot of fun, amazing tracks it's been a while since we have had that sort of greenery to rip to bits .So what about the bike does anyone know ?.
-
Looking at that bike I'd say the swingarm is RM or PE, the forks are Suzuki. Triples look the same as my PE175 ones with a single top bolt, but the fork legs are RM. Back of the frame looks Zook (maybe PE from the rear rail behind the seat) but the engine cradle has been removed.
My two cents worth anyway
Brent
-
I thought I might have had a better pic for you guys to see, but I havnt, sorry. I do have a side on pic but it not every clear
(http://i45.photobucket.com/albums/f65/djracingyz/FoxtonFunDay079.jpg)
Does this help at all?
-
DJ how old would Morley be now?the picture i sent was from a1968 hot rod mag, you can blame John Smailes for the CZ balls up.Cheers KB.
-
KB I think Morley is about 60 now, but not possitive.
-
A couple more photos of vmx nz style

-
Hey DJ,
The pic of the bike going through the mud on the first page, wouldn't be Mr August on the DR500 would it?
???????????????????
Brent
-
Sure is Brent, thats the DR you rode at Taupo.
-
And he makes it go a LOT faster than I ever could!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Brent
-
Brent ya better get back over here and have another go on it just to make sure ;D ;D
-
I'd love to DJ but not within the next year, we'll see after that.
I'm working on a transport crate with an internal lifting mechanism so you can dismantle the bike inside (sort of!) and pack it down to about 1.3 M long. Should travel well and it's strong enough to have things stacked on it. I'd love to bring my bike over there. I wouldn't ride any faster but you can't beat your own bike and I wouldn't fear damaging someone elses.
Brent
-
Yeah I know what ya mean about ya own bike Brent. I dont like riding other peoples bikes, thats why I want to bring my own bike to CD5, but I'm happy to loan my bikes out to who ever wants a ride. And so long as they dont do anything down right stupid all is ok, even if it siezes or shits a box, it just means I didnt have it prepared properly. In fact I like loaning my bikes out. I have a rider racing the series on my YZ125J.
-
Would that be Klub Kevlars own Mike Jolley on his DR Suzuki (#5) and old mate Mal Seargent on the Honda (#24)?
-
Yep sure is Mate ....notice how the mighty Dr has the red rocket under control ;D
-
Yeah Firko the boys of the classic scramble club up in Auckland had a meeting so a few of us lower north island guys made the journey up and had a great day. It was a relaxed fun day just marred by me running out of petrol at the bottom of the hill ::) ;D ;D it was along slow push back ;D
-
Firko I thought you might like a couple of these pictures

The bikes are a bit before my time but ya cant beat the sound ;D
-
Mmmmmmmmmm sweet as!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Noticed one with a large poxy muffler fitted , What a tragedy this 98 decible rule will be to the dinosaurs :-[ Tim
-
Geez the riders must have gonads and a half wheeling those heavy lumps of iron though them barb wire fences at full noise :o....brilliant shots
Tm Bill is that you with your hands behind back ????
-
Cool stuff, especially that lovely white Triumph Metisse...... Is that TM Bill I see eying the shiny British iron and shedding a tear as he relives fond memories of his youth in Mother England in the second photo down? Also in the same shot, what was the owner of the red Metisse thinking with that Cortina muffler?
-
The first photo has Peter Ploen in it and yep, thats TMBill standing next to TMBill senior. As for the cortina Mk1 muffler, will I'm not sure what he was thinking but he did get some good air on that bike. ;D
-
Well I have been hoping to see some of your aussie pictures in here but while I'm waiting for you to post them here are a couple more vmx photo from NZ

nice photo that one of Number 3 - looks great - well done!
Rossco
-
I didnt take that picture, another vmxer (the eel) took it with my camera. A few guys over there may remember #3 Mike Marshal, he is a very good MXer and speedway (solo) rider and as you can see knows how to slide a bike ;D. He is also one of the best bike restorers of vmx. These are some of his bikes.

very nice bikes.
are they 1985 CR500RF & 1987 YZ490T (action photo #3 1982 CR250RC) ?
-
Shit those bikes are beautifull!! Is that not an '85 YZ490?
-
Yeah guys the #3 bike that Mike is riding is a '82 CR250 and the CR500 is '85 and the YZ490 is "85 also. His bikes are always beautifully presented and they are riders not show bikes.
-
Very nice photos of the older bikes on page 2 DJ.
Hope you have another great year of riding and photo shooting in 09. 8)
cheers alison
-
Unreal shots DJ. Gaz and I had the pleasure of meeting Mike when he came to OZ a couple of years back, he's an excellent rider and a really nice person, it would be good to see him back over here and on the track.
Keep Smiling :)
Jackie Mac
-
Jackie, Mike hasnt been riding lately which is a pity but at the recent masters games here in Wangavas he won the snooker, so in a way he was still sliding around on the green stuff. ;D
Plus he has been very busy at work, I had to get him in to install a new gas oven and the bill turned up with the total being 1 RM400T DG pipe ;) ;D so there is hope yet that he will be back on a bike soon.
-

The snow is for skiing on, which I hope to do in August. I have promised Karen I will teach her to ski this year and we are fortunate to live only 100km away from the slopes.
I have to be one of the lucky ones. I think this sport/hobby of VMX is tops and it ties in with my other passion, photography, so Im on a win win all round. If I couldnt ride I would still be at every meeting taking pictures, its a hard life but someones gotta do it. ;) :D ;D
-
ok is it a mitsubishi

Those NZ tracks look nice and fast, be nice if we set ours that way :)
Cheers,

Cracker visual effect here DJ, you running along side, wheres the track near Levin?
-
The track was at Fordell, about 10k southeast of Wanganui.
I took the photo standing still and following the bikes through the view finder and by using the zoom at the same time as clicking the shutter. I have a couple like this but I would have to find them.
