Post by: Rossvickicampbell on September 14, 2007, 02:50:20 pm
Does anybody know of any contacts for engine parts for the 360B - pistons, rings, sleeves, rods etc???

Any help would be appreciated.

thanks

Hi Rosco I have quite a few NOS YZ360 pistons available in all sizes. I all so have some ring's I would have to check what I have in rings.

As for a rod ebay they seem to appear quite often the same for the pistons.

Check this one :http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Yamaha-DT1-YZ250A-YZ360-RT1-RT2-Conn-Rod-NEW-NOS_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ50462QQihZ009QQitemZ190128579629QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWD1V (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Yamaha-DT1-YZ250A-YZ360-RT1-RT2-Conn-Rod-NEW-NOS_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ50462QQihZ009QQitemZ190128579629QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWD1V)

Not sure about sleeves though.

You can email me if you like for a piston.

hey rossco,
that rod kit looks a bit exy to me and is just the rod only. i just got an aftermarket rod kit, complete with both bearings, for my RT1 for $185 brand new and then it cost me about $70 to get fitted.
i can have a look tomorrow as it's late now but i'm sure it's the same rod from a mid eighties yz250 that does the trick.
HTH.

the rod kit brand is "pro x"
on the box it says,

"prox" no. 03. 2304
yamaha
yz250 '83-89
(24y-11651-01)
with washers   1 kit

my old mate at my local yammie shop here in brisbane sorted it out for me and it all fitted up beautifully and should do for all those early dt/rt/yz engines.
my bike with this kit is a few days off running but i'm confident the rod kit is the goods.
cheers.

I think with this rod (pro x) you have to run a approx 6mm spacer under the barrel as it's a little longer or I think you can also run a Honda Odyssey 380 or something piston as the gudgeon pin height is different.

I say go for the standard kit's and parts as these work first go every go.

Hey if you ain't in any rush just wait and these will come up on ebay. Piston, Rod, Rings, Bearing's etc.

You just really need the 214 yamaha rod check you local dealer one will out there somewhere.

You need part number for a rod:   431-11651-00

This rod is used in quite a few models.

Hey you have a quite rare and desirable bike, The bike also probably cost a small fortune  it ain't worth doing a bodgey I reckon use genuine parts they are out there and a rod will probably last the bike another 35 or so years.  That's just my opinion.

Here's a bearing.

Here's a cheaper rod make an offer even read the item description.

hey guys,
as far as the rod goes, my bike is almost ready, as in, RT1, new bearings, seals, rod kit, piston kit with rebore etc all bolted together in the frame with oil, just got to sort out the electrics and carby.
with the head bolted on, piston clearance is fine with no spacer nessecary and rod kit was fitted by a prominent brisbane machinist with extensive bike experience with the old Rod being returned to me to hang on my wall.
it's the goods.

check my earlier post Adam,
the number is 2304 but due to the motor being bolted together i think it has a prefix number under the rag in the pic.
i'll guess it's the same number i previously quoted from the box.

No I mean the OLD ROD the one you replaced.
If it is a yamaha one it will have a 3 digit number etc 214 or some thing.

Beautiful vandy looks as if this will do a yz360a and B's aswell as the 214 rod does a number of bikes including the yz250a yz360a and the b models also.
Look's like rosco is on a winner for the money.

I do prefere oem though for my bike's if I can find the parts etc.
Did the pro x have a slot on the big end for lubrication??

seems we could talk about rods for a while hey.
yes to the slot.
i definetly remember checking it out, the old 214 just has a hole while the pro x has a very nicely shaped, well lubricating, almost sexy, slot.

Gents - this is awesome help - thanks.  Apparently the spacer is needed with the Honda rod but yep the Pro X fits straight in!

i'm just wondering about sleeves for these things.
from a riding point of view, would an oversized Rt2 or 3 piston work in the YZ?
or even a Dt360a piston kit? just wondering as i know RT1 oversizes can go up to 2mm or does the yz360a run a chrome bore?

and while you are talking about sleeves - does anybody know where you can get one of those?  I am having good luck so far with pistons, rings, rods but need a sleeve and just starting to chase a gasket set.

ta again

a 360 sleeve might be an odd one.  google LAsleeves etc they are online so you will at least know if they made em.

i have the RT1/2/3 360cc gasket set, check to see if they are the same if so i have a few of em :P

i found a guy who custom make steel liners for under $400 fitted.  top effort i think and the windows will be lining perfectly to the bore cuts

A sleeve for my 360B arrived from LA Sleeve today. They no longer list it on their website, but they do have them.
Part No: YA-332.
$230 USD + postage. Arrived at my door for $300AUD.
The problem I now have and hope some of you Yammie gurus can help me with, is the pistons I had sourced as YZ360 pistons
have turned up and they are in fact I believe RT360 and RT2 MX pistons. Part No's 332-11635-01 & also an oversize 322-11630-10.
My trusted mechanics are concerned that the cut-aways in the back of these pistons are different to the origianal and more importantly think the position of the ring locating pin is wrong and will cause the ring to catch on an intake port.
Can any of you guys help with your experience/knowledge, or should I keep hunting for genuine YZ?

Cheers
Rod
