Post by: Maico31 on January 08, 2009, 07:56:01 pm
Does anyone know the amount of gearbox oil these things hold?

1600cc of TQF, and 200 ml in each fork leg... out of jail for the cost of 2 litres... :D

Thanks..That's a lot of gear oil compared to the maico but it is a lot bigger bottom end.  Actually put about 230mls in the forks, they were a bit soft.

Fair call John, that's two things we have in common.... a WR400, and a sure knowledge that Peter Ploen is an incurable star..... ;D

My memory must be failing me John. I thought that bike was a '74 and would have almost put money on it. Did you put the shocks back where they should be?
Cheers,
K

Pretty sure it's a '75 K. I left the shocks layed down, looked like too much work to put back to std and for vinduro's i don't think it matters too much.

I don't know if i will ride it Rusty, was thinking of selling it and looking for a '77 CR390 for pre '78. I probably should race a Husky, might keep the boss happy.

GD are these '75 wr400's any good? Don't know much about them, was riding a TM75 back then. Did you race with Ploen back in NZ?

There's a '78 CR390 ML rolling chassis in my shed, just needs an engine.
Cheers,

Haven't had mine long, but it's got plenty of puff and I love it, gotta get it stopping and turning a bit better and all will be good, luckily I have The Oracle himself, Bill Watson in my club,VMXWA, he's been bashing round on Huskies since 1965 and has 14 of them, so I'm fortunate to have access to a well of knowledge. I used to spanner for Peter Ploen for a couple of years when he rode RH and RNs for Colemans, and then when he was on the first of the RMs I helped him tie up the Crazy Shirts deal where he became NZ's first pro mxer, worked with him for a while at Brisk Sales in Qld as well. We're still in touch, he whizzes round the world now for Franklins the petro-exploratory mob, still as keen as hell, still fit and still bloody quick, as Brad 090 can attest. And still smiling.... 8)

No doubt, I figured you'd raced him from somewhere when you spotted his apehangers at Taupo ! I recall your name, but can't place your scone. Might catch up if I sneak over for CD6.... 8)
