1985. Somewhere in the USA... let's say Hangtown.

RJ #5.
Bob Hannah #25?

Does Jeff Ward have #3 on his jersey and #2 on his bike!?

Ward is the obvious one, it looks like Brian Lunis at the front in the dunlop hat, Bob Hannah over his right shoulder in a red cap, Mark Barnett directly above Wardy's bike, blonde hair no cap. Maybe Ron liechein between bikes 25 and 5, don't recognise 25,5 and 4, but that has to be the Jeff Leisk on the end on 10.
at perhaps a round of the Golden state series?

How'd I go?

I think its a japanese supercross with Wardy, Keith Bowen, Rick Johnson and Jeff Leisk on #10. Doesn't look big enough to be a AMA national and looks like several japanese people present but then again it could just be a heat race at the Daytona supercross.

Evil always stood like that - one leg ended up short than the other  ;).

He's just waiting for his Harley to be started  ;D.

I can see that youv'e been reading some of my other posts Nathan, but all it gave you was the year & the country.

evo550 was the closest to the money as it was in fact a Golden State round at Lake Madera, round 2 think, in Feb. 85
Wardy was the obvious, the others were our boys who were out "practicing"
10 Jeff Leisk
4 Vaughn Style
5 Glen Bell
25 Craig Dack
The guy inbetween 5 & 25 is Russel Evans form S.A. anybody know of him?
The blond head 3rd to the left of Ward could be Lyndon Heffernan
Not sure about Brian Lunis, you may have one up on me.
Ward was the only factory guy. I remember Leisk giving Ward a good run & also Jim Holley.

Bell had a good start except it was red flagged

Bell had a good run the 2nd time around too but this time Ward was up their as well

Bugger reading your posts ( :D), I recall the Photo Finish in ADB and there was hours on Google coming up with the little I did get. Even if it was wrong.

Hey Nathan, what issue was that ADB? Dec 85 or Jan 86
I'm after a copy as I lost mine somewhere over the years.

Buggered if I know. I thought it was mid 86? Have to dig deeper with less beers in my system... Worth noting that our esteemed webmaster got a pic in issue 81 (1986)'s Photo Finish.

Hey Geoff
You should sell CD's of those shots you took on that trip. I'd buy one.  ;D
As much as I'm into pre 75 desert stuff now, the 80's is where I did most of my dirt biking growing up.
btw Were you using the same camera you shot with at the Nats??  ;)

Yes Tony, Iv'e been thinking about doing something with them but it will take me a solid week to go through them all & scan them (somewhere around 300). Some need a bit of photoshop work as I ended up with some dust on the lense, the down side of swapping lenses at a MX event. The first photo was untouched, the 2 starts had dust removed.
Yes it's the same camera, A Pentax ME.  When I did my budget for the trip I realised I couldn't afford to race but wanted to go anyway and that's when I decided to get a camera. Geoff Eldridge had a lot of camera advice in ADB which I read over & over. I bought the Pentax second hand in late 84 and some duty free lenses on the way. I was happy with most of my shots despite taking a few duds.
I was going to get a new digital recently but then the budget flew out the window. When I got the camera out at Coff's I nearly forgot how to use it as I haven't done much with it since the trip, (I'd rather be riding) In order to travel light I only took one lense, (wide angle) I chose poorly.
Getting setup to take a good photo takes a lot of thought, checking out who looks good in which corner or jump & with only 3 laps you didn't get many chances. I would like to recomend that the Titles in Tassie be changed to 45 min. plus 2 laps to give photographers more opurtunities :D

Better make sure the Track is next to the hospital or there is an Ambo for each rider on the grid  ;D

Well it just goes to show, that even with the most basic camera, you can get some great images if you know how to steer it. Not so sure I'd do as well with the same camera.  :-[
Good stuff Geoff!
