Title: DT1 GYT
Post by: firko on December 24, 2008, 08:07:02 am
How nice is this?.......good money too. It;ll be interesting to see what a GYT kit'll go for. They rarely, if ever come up whether new or 2nd hand.

The GYT pipes all have the mesh heat shield like that - lots of small holes.

They are also taller than they are wide (in cross-section), with seams top and bottom.

A pipe alone is a cool thing, but worth a lot less than a kit like the Ebay one.

I've got three GYT pipes, two DT1 and an RT1 pipe. They're identical other than the diameter of the stinger. I've also got a NOS  piston port GYT RT1 Barrel, a GYT DT1 head, 2 or 3 GYT oil pump blanking off plates and a GYT DT1MX alloy high mount front mudguard. I found all of this stuff when it was worth diddly squat back when I was building the 'DT1 from Hell' back in the early 90's. The RT1 barrel and the front guard are now on the Cheney. To answer Freakys question, except for the painted finish with polished fin ends, I don't think that they can be identified externally. I may be wrong on that though. I don't have a stock piston port barrel to compare. All of this GYT stuff is now highly collectable which is reflected in the $570 price tag for a second hand kit.

This is my old DT1 prior to fitting the square swingarm and with the original GYT/Supertrapp exhaust combo. It was later replaced with a Peter Reynolds fat pipe. Note the GYT front guard, found in the bargain bin at Noel Shipps shop for $2. It's now on my Cheney.

So if you cant tell the GYT stuff except for a paint and polish how can you tel a genunine one of any ?,  seems like that open to abuse, even if you nly hard put the kit it would be easy to make up the rest and pass it off as the full kit ?  there must be a differance by sight or stamping.

And that Dt1 originally had a buy now of $4500, but sold at $5900  ??? someone wasnt paying attention before it went over the mark..............  ;D

The chrome bore would be a good starter if you can see inside. Outside, not sure.

Another one. A lot cheaper and in my estimation, a better buy because it's a factory MX and not a GYT kitted enduro. Or that's what the seller says anyway.

i'd reckon that'd be a YES Bill,
piston port barrel and the square swing arm being the main reasons.
although even if it never had the box section swing arm, it'd be a petty dispute to disallow it.
cool lookin bike though :)

Just for the record: DT1s don't need square section swingarms to be pre-70 legal anymore. They must have non-reed valve top ends though. :)
