Hi all,
I have a parts bike MX80 that i'm trying to get going, it has no spark, I tested to see if there was any charge coming from the wire that goes to the coil and there's nothing (no sparking in the points either). I'm not sure it is wired up corectly down there (was in peices) so i've attached a (shitty) picture of how I set it up. A small copper (stator?) wire goes to a tab on the condensor, one wire out of the condensor goes to the points, and the other goes up to the coil. Is that correct? There seems to be plenty of pull on the magnets on the inside of the flywheel (weather or not that important I don't know). Which component is likely to be buggered in there?

Any help appreciated.
YZinger.

Check the contact between the wire and bolt on the points and make sure the insulators and are in the right place,s . I had a RV90 do this to me ,cleaned it up and hasnt missed a beat since

Cheers mate will do! Which bits are the insulators?
-
there fibre washers to insulate the bolt from mount plate, you can test it with multimeter, see if there is continuity from points thru bolt to wire . and check coil resistance i'm not 100% on this someone might have a test spec for this bike they post ?

check your black wires and earth, you may not be earthing, or worse earthing where you shouldnt.
or just a really unlucky guy ;D

Yep cool, i'll clean and check out the earths tonight, it all looks o.k to me though.
Can't see the these insulators though, are they part of the points assembly, no part number for them, or am I missing something...

I've just noticed that the condensor in the parts diagram above has 3 wires going in to it, whilst the one I have installed only has 2 ::) . I think I may have it wired up incorrectly, i'll have another look tonight.

Now i'm pretty sure i've got it wired up incorrectly, condensor is correct, have found one on ebay with that part number. I need to work out which wire attaches to the tab i've circled in the pic below...

Process of elimination, one black wire to the points, one black wire to the coil source, so the wire that goes to the ignition coil must attach to that tab on the condensor. Hope thats right, i'll give it a try tonight!

i think you have answer this whole post on your own :O)

Where the wire connects to your points # 6 on your parts diagram. It may look ok you have to undo and clean the contacts

I think your right! Wired it up that way last night, and now have sparking in the points and a charge going to the ingition coil. How would I find out how much charge the generator is supposed to putting off?
Anyway, so I attached the coil and grounded the spark plug, kicked it over, and nothing, so i'm guessing the ignition coil is stuffed. I'll swap the one off my running MX80 to test before I go and buy one.
Cheers yzhilly, i'll give the insulators a clean, it can only help!
