how do you pull the forks apart to stiffen the springs up.i have these on my slider

i think the seal holder unscrews from the steel fork lower , like a big round nut

now here is the realy weird thing about these forks!!! they only have a spring in one leg!!! WTF! why the hell would yamaha do that?

really kristan i will have to check mine out when i get them done i will get new tubes and two springs doesnt make sense to just have one mine feels as if it doesnt have one in the right hand side when sitting on the bike what about yours?

MX & GT 80 HAVE ONE SPRING AS STANDARD IN THE FORKS ;)

I have a new set of aftermarket fork seals if anyone likes them. $5.00 plus postage. PM me.

can 2 fork springs be fitted as there are 2 in later dt80 forks.they use the same spring according to zedder and yamaha usa

the forks are designed to only have one spring by the looeks of it! the two slidrs are differant. basically you cant put another spring in the other side as the fork tube is solid on the bottom! the only way to get springs in there is to get another tube the same as the one with the spring in. from my many hour of trawling the net i have found out that the forks were use on a yamaha chappy, maybee others?
The tubes are still available from yamaha for the princley sum of $250 each tube. This is a crap price i know, but it also means that they are still being used on bikes recently!
hope this makes sense? I am in the market for a pair of fork tubes too so i will keep you posted on my progress. like wise if you come across anything interesting let me know?
oh my yamaha dealer had all the exploded diagrams and parts list on their computer (result!)

$250 is more than a bit to expensive for me i only need five more parts and im ready to do it throttle seat base indicators speedo and tail light bracket do you reckon if i take it some where to have the forks done they will be able to source some similar tubes for me thanks Michael. :)

if they are not bent, try walter at yss and have the m re chromed? my ones are bent to F**K !!!

When it comes to really bad fork legs , check for the replacement options , since grinding and chroming have gone up considerable in the last few months. In general staightening will cost about $20.00 per leg .
If there are creases , we will not touch them for safety reasons and you will also find that the spring will be obstructed due to the creasing . I know of places in USA that will have new legs for $150.00 and for that amount you are better off with new ones.
