Does anybody know much about these mini bikes?
I was given one the other day and fell in love with it.
can anyone point me in the direction of some spares?
is the 80 the same size as the 50?
any info would be great!

Hi they are very rare and valuable im doing up the 80 it is the same colour called hi sparkle blue and i got a nos fender of a guy the other day off ebay they are extremely hard to come by through any wreckers or any were else as it would have the low mounted fender as well and yes most parts interchange i have the 74gt80 and it looks very similar to that youll find parts hard to get unless you get them from america yours has the original front tire as you find alot of the fender struts get broken and they put a high mounted fender on and a front knobbydoes it go be aware that those tanks love to rust and you need a filter if you dont want to have the carbie block all the time but you can get a special thing called tank creme thank goes of hard inside and stops the rust flaking off are you planning to do it up as parts can be a trouble they made the gts for a while they didnt make many gt50's. Is your speedo in kms if so whats it go up to? thanks Michael.

Engine is the same unit as the early RD50 and there are plenty of bits for them from asia and the u.k.

Oh by the way they were road legal and had every thing head and tail light indicators and horn im doing up mine for the original owner dads mate i nearly have all parts :)

Yep identical size and frame, body work as the 80 .,80 engine bolts straight in. ;)

hi Michael,
just read you post again. my spedo is in MPH and goes up to 60MPH. have been doing a fair amount of digging on this one and it turns out even yamaha australia can't date it for me! the engine and frame number prefix is FT1 which puts it roughly 72-73. I found some spares through find a part, all be it mx 80 ones. still tracking those elusive electrical components though and a front fender!
sad isn't it how you can get so exited over a little bike?

They are a great little bike 4 gears straight up and neutral the lowest ill try post a pic of the fender i got electrical gear is sometimes on ebay.com search gt80 not 50 it is the same any way my speedo is mph and goes up to 60 aswell i got alot of parts from america it cost 150 US for a heap of stuff full wiring harness the igniton with original key oil tank headlight and front and back hubs and lots lots more yours im pretty sure is a 73 and same colour as mine you could probably just change the head and make an 80 if you want a little more power keep checking ebay especially ebay.com youll find stuff eventually try and buy a heap of one person as postage is reduced be aware they may charge $30 us for one part postage i know they are worth a lot of money when done up as they are very collectable compared to mx80 and dt80 and dt50 make sure when you search for parts search gt80 or mx80 and even dt80 and dt50 because gt50 are vary rare but the same in most parts. My gt80 was my second bike after the honda minitrail great to learn on i used tor ride it when i was 9 or 10 6 years ago and now i want to do it up for the original owner who is dads mate hopefully it will be finished by march and i will put photos on here around then or maybe sooner as i have all parts except throtlle brake light bracket and thats about it they are a really good looking bike when done up and i think the high sparkle blue is the best colour of all thanks Michael. :)

The GT50 is a 73 model. I have a very nice unrestored 73 GT1 (MX80) that sat in a shed for 34 yrs, it still had the owners manual in its original yamaha plastic bag and tool kit under the seat, and the original nitto tires are on it, it had some minor rust in the tank, gave it a flush and I changed the oils and air filter, it's paint work is silver with a dark blue strip, I am leaving it unrestored, it runs like a new bike, unmolested 73 models are very rare. ;D

FT50 JT60 GT80 HT90 LT100 AT125 CT175 DT250 RT360. Some of these early Road/Trail Yams had MX versions also.

Mine is fairly origanal but isnt original paint some one sprayed it badly because there is a heap of original paint on the underside of every thing :)

I've just purchased a little TS50 courtesy of a good man named Freakshow ;) looking forward to having it arrive in the not too distant future and was thinking of taking it back to box stock original but then a TM50 vision appeared. Suzuki never made a TM50 and I can't say I've ever seen anyone build anything remotely like one so maybe it's a calling for me :D will wait till the bike arrives before deciding but I've plenty of TM75 parts (tank,plastics,frame,wheels etc) looking for a home so the idea is most definately easily do-able ;D
