Title: Help my Velo is driving me nuts
Post by: 211kawasaki on December 14, 2008, 10:33:19 pm
I have a 53 MAC Velocette, built it from a rusty pile if shit 12 years ago and did every screw, nut, and washer but......

It striped the mag drive (fiber wheel) ;; I have another but every time I go to tighten it up the auto advance bindes up and the bob weights get stuck in advance.

My question is; what have I missed, been looking at it half the day, the new one measures exactly the same as the old. Hellppppppp!!

never had a lot to do with velo's but i think i would remove the maggie and try mounting the advance unit onto it so you can see whats happening as you tighten the retaining nut.does it have the type of retaining nut that also acts as a puller? what i do know about velos is that if you undo the oil feed to the engine it is imperative that you bleed the oil system as they get an air lock [caused by the one way valve on the suction side] then the oil pump breaks up. i think you need to undo the oil line to get at the maggie. i shall make enqiries of other senior citizens. cheers wally.
