Title: TS185 ID questions
Post by: Loydee on December 10, 2008, 06:49:19 am
Hiya - currently rebuilding me TS185 ER which I use in classic enduro and twisty grass hillclimbs. A few ID questions if you could.
1) Can ya swap the older 78 tubular swingarm into the ER frame, the frame width is the same..
2) Anyone know what model the blue tank is off? It has a screw thread tap and a chrome twist on cap.
3) What model were these YSS shocks for? 375mm long and 10mm shaft. XL185?
4) I got this piston out of a 78 engine -see how ring lands differ to an ER piston and has no detents around gudgeon pin. Looks more akin to earlier type pistons. Can these be used in later Er engines.
Loads of pics and too big to attach please go to

1, YES
2, Early model TS (fit a TF tank they're 12 litre)
3, Dunno ER shocks are 340mm
4, Any year piston for the 185 will work in either the ER type 2 engine (reed) or early type 1 engine (piston port)

Bloody 'ell, that was quick ! Thanks cyclegod. Jeez if I'd known about earlier pistons fitting ER type 2 wouldn't have passed up some cheapies... :(
Incidentally the gudgeon pins are particular to each piston, 49mm and 54mm.
Ok now I can proceed getting that ugly box section swingarm outta there for starters.  ;D

The shocks are of the old hydraulic  single tube construction. They are an ok unit  for under $200, but not made to race.
