Does anybody know what would make a good replacement tank for an SP370?
-
Anything ;D
Gawd they were fugly things
-
do you want more capacity? do you want a plastic one?
-
They sure are fugly Pokey. I have a couple of tanks i've collected but they all need allot of work to fit them as the frame is so wide at the seat end. Capacity is not an issue i.e. less is more.

this one is the same base as the DR universal tank but is a bit higher. The capicty is NOT 14 liters though. I’ve got one. The mould has been repaired and Clarke told me this is what caused the loss of capacity to 12.75 liters

maybe would fit. Send photos/dimensions of your frame/ seat mounting and Clarke will help you work out if it will fit

this one will also fit. It is the old Don Vesco tank for leading axle fork bikes, but will fit most non leading axle fork bikes aswell. I believe Clarke either directly copied this Vesco tank or they bought the mould off Vesco

also some of these universal ones may fit. You would need to discuss it with Clarke/send them photos/dimensions of you frame etc
also you can look for a used Malcolm Smith long range tank for a late 70’s YZ/IT 250/400 (around 77-79) they are easy to find on ebay and are always on ebay. Ive got a few. They hold 14.6 liters. I am 99% sure this would fit your bike. Caps are no problem. Tap may need to be swaped from right to left side.
One other tank that would fit is the Australian made 14 liter universal Open Road skinny/fat tank
I can send photos of the Open Road and Malcolm Smith tanks on the week end if you like.
you may also find that early 80’s DR 250/400/500 steel tanks may fit and also a RM 465/500 tank may fit.

yeah, as fugly as the SP370 or 400 tanks were (kinda..I didn't mind them too much and better than the '78 TS series IMO) the longish slim lines could work very well on a dirt tracker ;) was thinking of using one myself for a split second till I spotted the RL250 alloy tank on the shelf ;D I've a great big fat/fat someone or other brand plastic long long long range tank or I have a giveaway DR600 tank that may work but again more than likely look hideous :o I know they're green but aircooled KDX kawasaki tanks went close to fitting a DR500 when little else would..assuming the frame on the 370/400 isn't so far removed it maybe a drastic last ditch type option :-\
