Not mine, but I've seen them at a few meets around SE Qld.
-
And the other one.
-
And another, none of them mine.
I just love that basic dirtbike/ nothing but function/ bling-free zone look about them - pure workhorse!

Hi Wombat,
Is that a 1971 CZ with a 1975 tank.

-
Looks like the basis of a good racer Ji, good luck with the rebuild.
-
Yep, nice starter for a good project. I thought about buying that very bike myself but I've got enough projects including another CZ. It looks pretty unmolested and the best part is that parts are freely available and cheap unlike much of the similar period Japanese stuff. Enjoy the build Mr Gantor.
-
Whats the story behind this one Ji?
-
Hi GMC,
Thanks for your kind words. I look forward to every greasy moment.

Hi Red Devil,
Yes Paul told me that some one was interested in the CZ prior to my inquiry. I am so happy you did not buy it. I have found that the parts are easy to get and cheap in comparison to Yamaha parts.
Thanks for your kind words and I will keep you up to speed on its progress.

Hi Shortshifter,
I am not totally sure on the background, but I will get to the bottom of it.
So far I know that the bike has only had one rider owner since new. The fellow purchased it and raced it but 1973/4 was a time of great changes in the MX world. The next year the bikes came out with longer travel suspension and accordingly the tracks were reshaped to suite. Unfortunately the 3 inch travel bikes were left behind, so the owner decided to employ the bike as a flat track racer for a while. By 1979 so the legend goes the bike was given a lusty coat of oil and retired. The second owner purchased the bike with a view to restore but decided to stay with the Maico breed and hence that is how I came to be the third owner. The bike is very original and still has a Barum front tyre.
This fable may have been pasted down the line with errors or omissions. I will get all of this confirmed and those interested will be advised.
I just can not stop looking at it.

Mate, I could try 'Googling' to find out but the I honestly don't know...
What's the old saying about art?
"I don't know much about art - but I know what I like".
That's how it is for me and old MXers - I take photos of pretty things.
I'm sure one of the Gurus on the forum could tell you.

wombat
thats what it looks like a yellowtanker with a later tank on it

Hasnt raced for 10 years but it looks like you could just throw a leg over and boogie!Noel your bike looks great how did you go in Canberra(saw you lining up in last issue of VMX)?
-
Hi Short,
I rolled around OK on the CZ, I had an off in an early 125 race, and was a bit second hand most of the weekend and tried to stay out of more trouble,(later discovered that I'd cracked six ribs),
the bike ran well thought, great fun to ride, though tires you out a bit.
cheers

The bike is a 72 motor and 74 frame. I asked the owner.

After a quick winter rebuild following Taupo where 1 spoke let go in the rear wheel, replacing it & retruing the rim cost 14 spokes in the end.
Engine was stripped down & checked out, new seals etc plus a nice fat pipe from CR in the states
Now that cases are sealed properly it starts 2nd kick which I don't ever remember it doing before
