Mate mate mate what are you doing with all those spanish chariots..? All you need is just 1 Maico
-
only ever owned 1 maico 74 250 mx
raced it back then for 6 months then got rid of it :o
for a montesa that maico was the slowest bike i have owned ;D
plus i want to stand out when i win the races ;D ;D ;)
-
Nice bike, I think these bikes are very good looking machine.
Stand out that you will my friend, I just took the tank off the VF to the local motorbike strip to get a fuel cap, All I can say is WOW everyone crowded around to look at the tank to work out what bike it was off ect. Got asked is it a Monarch or CZ tank, Couldn't belive how much attention it got so I don't know what will happen when I take the whole bike out.
-
I agree - VA125 looks tres cool.
Nice bikes too, tho bigend is weak & g'box ratios are not as close as the competition. I had a near-new VB125 for many years, but VA125 is better looking. Sweet handling.
-
yeah they are pretty rare now
i am lucky enough to have 2 :o
both about 12 numbers apart on frame 8)
the big end has been done to a different style so should be sweet
i am running a bigger bing carb and with porting hopefully
should be good ;)
hope to have her done in a couple of weeks :P
-
VB125s ran a 36mm bing but it seemd a bit big. Std tranfers are rather small. I played around w 34 & 32mm Miks but never got them 'sweet'.
Enjoy!

maicos......shit i saw a 400 raced at barley ranch newcastle a posty 110 would have flogged it....spanish bikes rule.......

dont know how it will go ???
the motor looks the goods
and they have a good frame and suspension
i will just have to see how it goes
yeah the paint is off pipe at the moment
will post a picture when complete and outside shed ;D ;D
hey brad when are you coming to stanmore for a practice
we have been going down a bit lately ;D
-
He's too soft Rusty 8). 125 Monty is lookin good, keen to see how she performs when it's done.
-
Yes, v nice. Holeshot, do you know whats been done diff w the big-end?
Alternative (eg INA) caged roller in std rod?? Or diff rod?
-
I've got an original set of VA 125 Telesco shocks that I'll swap for a sixpack of James Squire Golden Ale only to a VA 125 owner. I think I've got a Motoplat ignition for one as well that'll cost a bottle of Jamaican rum, once again, only to VA125 owner or restorer. I don't want these parts to go to one of you parts junky hoarders. (like me) ;D
-
its using montesa rod with different bearing caged
will keep that in mind firko
thanks rusty ;D ;D
-
Im up for a run at stanmore. Give me a heads up and i will be there. I will bring one of my shitters!
-
het brad i will ring next time we go down ;D
you got lots of shitters ;D ;)
-

bike together ready to start on weekend i hope
still has wrong shocks
and missing front brake cable and air filter element
still stuff to do but looking good
fuk this thing is light
the whole bike weighs about as much as one
of my 500cc engines :o 8)
-
heres another shot ;D ;D
-
started her up today and rode her around 8)
new engine so just rode for 5 min
everything seems ok running a 34mm bing
have put in 155 main 50 pilot
run in on that then see what happens
feels light its like riding a pushbike
after getting of my 500s ;D
-
forgot to say i ran it for only 5 minutes
cause its fuggin loud as
jeez its got a crackle to it
keep you posted ;D ;D ;D
-
bike wouldnt run under 1000rpm
and didnt seem to have a lot of compression
strange cause all new (maybe i am used to 500s) ::)
changed squish fron 1.6mm to 1.0mm
still the same doh >:(
wont kick start roll starts straight away
got timing specs of jared 2.0 mm btdc 8)
was out reset much better nearly idles
then i felt something on my leg :o
head leaking they have a metal to metal seal
originally it had a thin copper ring on it
which looked dodgy so i took it out doh :'(
so head off again to fix tomorrow
must be a uneven surface on head
keep you posted ;D ;D ;) ;)

Holeshot,
I had trouble w the heads on my VB125 too. One of my heads was cracked thro the combustion chamber from where someone had overtightened it down, probably in an effort to seal it better. VB comp ratio was something like 15:1, so I cut a copper gasket from .7mm sheet (as I recall) & never had any probs w sealing again.
I believe the VA came std w'out a copper head gasket, so my guess is that the previous owner made one to try & seal it.
-
put the copper gasket back in
all fixed runs great idles and seems to have
a lot of bottom end
feels really good and responsive
have to take her to a track and test properly
finally :o
shit i am getting quick at taking off head ;D ;D
could be a good thing ;D
-
all finished done forks
respoked front wheel
new front brake cable
straightened rear shock :o

cant wait now
eventually will need new shocks and rear tyre ;D

Let's know how she goes Russ. Got me a VB125 the other day. I'm way too fat for a 125 but still interested in how they go.
Cheers,
K

-
