Title: slideshow of 50's and 60's bikes
Post by: AZ_Brad on October 29, 2008, 12:54:01 am
Hey Guys,
I saw this posted on my riding forum here in Arizona.   It is a fantastic slideshow of 50's and 60's bikes and racing from California and other Western States.  Enjoy!

Gee Brad, you've paid your admission with that one contribution to the forum 8).

Absolutely incredible; the photo quality, varity, content, vista, the personalities, the capturing of the spirit of the times and the sport - it's got it all. I would be hard pressed to pick a favourite.

Wow!!, thats incredible, thankyou so much. Reminds me of SH's 'Memories' article in latest VMX mag. Time passing like grains of sand... pass the tissues.

I'm glad you all liked it.  I've watched it several times with my kids.  They enjoyed it too!

What a great trip through what appears to be a great families motorcycle history. That sixties desert stuff is evokes a time when a Triumph Bonneville was considered the ace dirt bike and when we weren't legislated to protect ourselves from ourselves. Can any of our California based members tell me if some of that 60's desert stuff showing those blokes having fun on Triumphs is situated in the high Sierras up on Hwy 395 around Big Pine and Bishop? I used to ride in that area in the 70's and early 80's and the terrain looks really familiar. That collection is a priceless glimpse into simpler time.

Click the link I posted.  Then put your cursor on the top right.  An Options menu will appear.  Click on the "Always show title and description".  That shows the poster's comments.  Many of them describe the location.

Now that is an excellent trip down memory lane!
Not only the bikes but the whole background; the vehicles and buildings and the fashion are worth checking out.
Reminds me I really wish I had a better quality camera back in the day... :(

Mark, you missed the slow demise of the Brit bikes and the rise of the Jap bikes. Sad. But it's like watching it happen before you.

Yeah great post.

Hang on, just had a thought..the poster on flickr was a BC Greene, wasn't there an editor of "Motorcyclist" called Bob Greene?

Yup, see: http://www.motorcyclemuseum.org/halloffame/hofbiopage.asp?id=389 (http://www.motorcyclemuseum.org/halloffame/hofbiopage.asp?id=389)
