With all this talk of pre 90 racing what would be your chioce of weapon?
For me it would be a 1988 RM 250 , had one in the day back in the UK .Great all round bike, raced it in MX and Enduros even put lights and a moody rego plate on it and rode to the pub . 1988 was also the year my oldest Daughter was born so its a year of fond memories :)

Way after my time, I'm afraid. Were the fields dominated by the big 4 by then, or did we see any european brands still hanging on, eg KTM? Was the variety of early years gone?

89 cr250

Have to go with an '89 CR250. Mike it was pretty much all jap bikes by then.

Either '87 KX or CR 250, I think both Honda and kawasaki blew it in '88/'89 :-\...the '88 RM got some good reviews also, but I've never been into them.

To show that I do indeed like pre 90 bikes, an '89 ATK 604 will soon grace the Firko shed.

87 CR125.
88 or 89 YZ250 would also rate highly.
I actually own an 89 KTM250GS, so it'll get used - even though it wouldn't be my first choice as an MXer...
-
89 CR250 here
-
'85 500 or '89 500
-
my 85 CR500 ;D
-
for me its a 89 RMX 250 or a late 80s's TS250 X. Can use them for tail, enduro and MX which is much more useful for me. Or maybe a late 80's TT or KDX

I am with Bill 1988 RM 250 with a slight weakness for the 1987 CR 125 and 250 (Closet Rick Johnson fan).

Assuming they dont put a minimum age on the pre 90 class (as they do on the other classes , one of my pet hates )
I would ride an RM125S :)
-
If Magoo is going to bring out the 89 500 then so will I, just so we have the long and the short of it covered ;D ;D
-
1989 500 maico

Yep Bill I reckon a RM S would still cut it in there to!! ;D ;D ;)

LOL certinaly NOT brave , but i do believe that my lap times are governed by me rather than what i ride. I own a few bikes from 50cc to open classers but i dont think on a given track i would be much quicker on my RM 400T than i am on My RM 125S .Before we get into the Suzuki jokes its me not the bikes , obviosly in a straight line the 400 will run away from the 125 but the little S goes round corners on rails.
So given an ultimatum that i could only keep one bike theres no contest im keeping me S ;D ;D

Little bikes in the big bore class, brave or burning the brain cells??

The protested bike??

Low polnt of my Connondale trip :( being told i couldn't race Dodgeys XR in open 4 stroke. Wasn't coming last either but sombody took offence ::) Got back on a full size bike and the rest is history :D
-
David and Goliath ;D
-
Well if it was a hadicap race old Bert (on the right in the photo) would have you all done as he would get 4 laps start in a 3 lap race ;D ;D ;D
With all the debate about bikes he is a true VMX rider loves his four strokes and loves riding in general all at over 70!!
If he rode as fast as his boy's do now in his prime we would have been something to watch!!!!
TM Bill booldy offical's nice to see dodge got the footpegs back on that thing after classic dirt 5 :D :D as for the RM S I did ride one as a junior and yes they did turn in nicely (I think I remember) and they always sounded great!
