Hi All,
Ok all you Viper Guys, Gals, Wives, Mistresses & Kids, Listen up, We are back at Wonthaggi, home of the Black Loam. Saturday night, cool for camping, drinking, socialising & talking crap.Track will be prepared to GP Standards, there is plenty of water in the dam. Remember some of the good times we have had in the past, its an awesome place, an Ozzie National Track. The jumps will be shaved down, so you dont have to be RC, Bubba Stewart or even Mr Maico Snr (alias Captain Crash) ;D.
Big Marty, the new Grand Poo Bah of Wonthaggi, says the big step up is now Pee Wee 50 & old bloke legal ;D We are going back to old fashioned motocross. Dandenong Club has just taken possession of some heavy earth moving gear, so the track will definately be a big chocolate cake !!!!
Rumour mill says, even Darren, ie Elvis Mayberry & ex factory Yamaha Rider, Chris Cormack, will be putting in a one off appearance :o
Wonthaggi has great facilities, including hot showers & you are only 1km from the township.
Marty Vanderlaan is very keen to hold a Viper Pre 75 & Modern get together, in the new year, to kickoff the season in 2009.
Hope you can all turnup and have a great weekend.
Entry Forms have now been posted to www.vipermx.com
Any further enquiries, please call Marty Vanderlaan on 0407 507 094 or Dawn on 0422 550 521

What date is it ?
-
Date is November 9th.
I don't have to pump anyone up for my home Track as Mrs Maico has done an excellant job at promotion!
Wonthaggi must have the best facilities of any Vic track.
-
Yeehah sounds good , Who coming ???. Do a rain dance now.
-
mmmmmmmmmmmm
-
Now dont disappoint me Paul. You said you might come down and take some happy snaps, so you could make Ross jealous. Well, now he is intending to make the effort, you can take some happy snaps of him & maybe he could take some happy snaps of you, if you were to bring some of those Maico's of yours ???
Maybe we could also run a lucky dip on the day for a ride on a 81 490 Aussie Title Winning Maico ;D

Just a hurry up boys not many entrys in so pull ya finger out and get them in . C'mon it will be a cracker raceday .
-
If you are thinking about racing Wonthaggi next weekend, then read on.
Just got of the phone to Vanders & Dingo. Apparaently Dingo (Chris Cormack) has been down at the track with his equipment and has been doing a fair bit of work to the track. Gone will be the Play Station style jumps and in their place will be VIPER friendly track re-works. For those that know Dingo they will be aware that his expretise in earthmoving coupled with his long term Pre85 racing exploits will mean that we will have one shit hot track to ride on the Sunday.
If you are thinking about Wonthaggi, then i strongly suggest that you do more than just that and get an entry form in the mail ASAP as it is going to be one cracker of a meeting.
Direct link below to the entry form.

Track had a bit of rain today, dad said track looks fantastic, alot of changes and work been done, will be tops on sunday!
-
Team Tatters will be there... at this stage
-
Is anyone camping down there Saturday night?
-
Dont worry bout the rain Rossco it will only make it better yeehah 1 more sleep . I'm camping there saturday night.
-
pm sent mick
-
Wonnie will take a heap of water. Today's rain would have done the track a world of good.
I've been dropped from my factory CZ ride for Sunday in favour of a faster rider, so I might slap some numbers on my CRF and putt around in Modern. :D
-
NR555>>>>> U get the sack brother???? Damn!!! Who's slotting into the #1 ride???? Did U tell him/her to watch out for practice take out moves...... in practice??????
-
Nah, didn't get the sack. My brother is riding it.. he's only about 30 secs a lap quicker. ;D
I've just spent the year doing R&D for him so he has a decent bike for 1 round of VIPER. :D
I've got a bit of flu, so dunno if I'll ride at all now.. bugger it
-
Thanks to Chris Cormack and Marty V from DMCC,Track was awsome... and the weather was spot on!
track was prepared well and we kept the dust down to a minimum, some grouse racing went on.. apparently there was a sheep station for grabs in one of the races ;)
Hoony and other fellow non attenders.. you missed out on a rip snorter of a day!
-
Great day alright! Thanks to DMCC, Dawn and Macca and the rest of the Viper crew for a fantastic day!!!
-

Well i just unpacked after a marathon weekend and i'm rooted ,but that was a awesome track today and it made for great racing . My crew had a good time and me while not at the pointy end i finished every race i went in and no crashes and the big YZ run spoton all day. Saturday was good to catch up with everyone and have a few beers thanks to all involved in Setting it up and running a top Race day Yeehah. Got to sleep now.

thats some pretty neat lookin soil there fella's!
who's the guy on the YZ? ;D
-
Hey, Paul, I had no idea you were there, sorry I missed meeting you.
Mrs Maico #54
-
Hah very funny Vandy after fitting the 43mm front end and a heavier rear spring the YZ is much better than it was at CD5 . Another highlight of the weekend was no ambulance cases which shows the mods to the track made a big difference in rider safety and it was a fun track to ride .
-
dawn im under strict order not to take any compramising pics of ross plus i didnt stay long had to get my truck and chipper ready for this week .all i need now is to build a dunger to race on lol
-
This was a great day of well organised racing on an exceptionally well prepared track.
Well done to all the VIPER and DMCC people involved, and all the other volunteers who made it run so smoothly.
Tex
-
What a top weekend. Camping at the track on Saturday night was great, with great company all round. I have to wonder how does our Mr (666) Perkins do it & get out there on the Sunday & do as well as he did, must have been some secret ingrediant in those 15 stubbies he drank the night before ;D
A big thanks to my co helpers Miss Lana Hilly & her sister for helping me clean off the dust in the tower on Saturday.
When I can work out how to reduce the size of my pictures, will post them when I can :-\
Well done to all Winners & Placegetters, see you in "09

Dawn, that's exactly what Amanda was asking me, while watching Neale out there on Sunday.
Rob.
-
Yes hats off to NP he was untalkable when he wobbled off on saturday night and blitzed early in the day . Another highlight was having such a knowlegable character (Macca) as race caller and mc for the day i found myself racewatching from the startline. And from his vantage point he able to pick people out in the paddock and ridicule them from afar , i'm sure these people will remember him and give him some payback thanks Macca.
-
sweet pics yzhilly good day huh ??? considering the too few who put the series together every one I went to was a sensation (didn't do BR hear that was a struggle). God bless the likes of Bahnsy, Bumper & Dingo who sacraficed their good times racing to work the events so the rest of us could play thanks lads.... 2shocks & lady friends too
-
Oh and NR555 I told U to give your bro a heads up for T bones in practice but in the end I was wrong hey. Turned out 2B Moto1 haha .... sorry for the bum steer.
-
Thanks for that Ross, nice meeting you and your nice Monty too. I was wondering why you sailed past the turn off to Melbourne. I thought you must have known some secret short cut to Ballarat Rd after all you had been there before!
We got home around 6.30, I drove the ute into the garage shut the door and left it to worry about tonight. I have just finished unpacking and cleaning the bikes now.
Rob.
-
Same here, Amanda was asking me if I was awake every ten min on the drive home. After dinner we both hit the wall and were nodding off on the couch around 9.30.

I went in with the aim to finish and ride the day out and my last race for the day was my best ,so for me it was a great day and watching some of the serious boys goin at it was good MX.
-
Hi guys, had a couple of hiccups with the overall points apparently, but hopefully all has now been rectified after discussions last night.
Please recheck the Viper website for the final results, any problems let me know.

well done to all winners and placeholders.
Congrats to YZhilly & Tanya for 3rd places in their debut VIPER year, how good is that.
-
Hey Hoony i must thank you for introducing me to Viper and helping me get out on the track . I was the tortoise for the season and that wont change next season . I'm still spewing over crashing out of Blue rock . But i have met a heap of great people racing and riding this year and if Rosscoe had rode all season he would have beat me and if AussieATK (Steve Woodford) hadnt been racing in Glen helens (usa) he was faster than me too . So too all who run the events thru the year well done and thanks . I've had a cracker .

Well Done Hilly

My ears are still ringing from the swearing.

NR555 can i get a pic to as i need some darts practice aswell maybe the two darts will hit on the board going for the bulls eye
-
NR555 can i get a pic to as i need some darts practice aswell maybe the two darts will hit on the board going for the bulls eye
The only thing I can understand in all of that is that you suck at darts. Translated please?
-
all i am saying is maybe i can have the same dartboard that your brother will be using as you said he can make one from his happy snaps i suppose this could end up like a bad game of tennis depends on how much crap you want to bring into it or imply outher wise hey
-
Haha.. thankfully that's your shitfight to sort out with someone else.
Best of luck in your future racing endeavours. So will we be seeing the big No.1 on your bike next year?
-
Its not my shitfight i dont have a problem it happens to us all some time or another i was over it buy the next corner
-
Ok champ ;)

-

Haha.. yep it was definitely good to watch. There was bugger all in it from where I was standing.
-
he could have done a 440 on my a$$ ... many times I'm sure. There were parts of the track I had nailed & parts I didn't like so I was pumping it through where I could & sucking in big ones & trying not to crash everywhere else.... I never saw his front guard ( wasn't looking ) but my bro said there were times when we looked to be side by side out there
-
Definitely was pretty close on the last lap. There were a couple of bits where he was quicker, then a couple of other bits where you were quicker.
I'm still trying to figure out how he doesn't race all year and comes out and goes that fast. Now I know the bike is not the limiting factor ;D
Back to the practice track for me then ;D
-
Dude I know...... he does make the rest of us look ordinary when U put it like that >:( :-[ :'( ;D
Are U coming to Bradford for Viper dirt track?? Do it man U will love it. 30 sec laps.... 4lap races.... so fast..... especially on that bitch U ride..... the CZ I'm talking about...... :-X
-
I think i would get lapped 3 times in 4 laps by devilman on dirt track... Is Kaw440 doin the dirt track i wonder? should be a great day.
The racing was close between marty and Nick, grouse to watch. I was waiting to see the 3 way battle unfold in that race but it was only 2. Spewin u 3 guys weren't "toe to toe" in that last one :(
-
Thanks for the photo's Tex for such a great day"s racing there was plenty off people with big cameras walking around c'mon put em up !!!
-
I'd only lap U coz U'd be laying on the ground mxmaniac LOL C'mon 440 #1's gotta be there its tradition
-
The big #1 will be on the 440 i reckon, how can someone want to win so bad, at any cost and then not want to run it once they have earned it ??? NR555.. post that photo so i can see it again, its a ripper action shot.
-
The photo is still on Travs camera - I'm still pestering to get it sent to me..
-
i am trying to work this out
what happened did someone crash ???
-
I was there and I don't know what they're on about! :-\ :)
-
Stay tuned for the photo..Its very self explanitory.. :o i didn't see the actual thing happen as it was out the blind side of the track, but i seen the postions change from before too after that section.. :D
-
just to fill u in ( nice pun ) Tex & Holeshot there was some alleged uneccessery contact made between the 2 @ the front in Expert moto one..... I was too far behind & missed it but they say it was untidy work. They also say theres pictorial evidence so we're all keen to see.... I'm just glad I was too far behind
-
well come on where is the photo
we are all waiting ;D ;D ;D
-
photo.....photo.....photo :-X
-
Ahhhhh... the suspense... ;D With technology, u would think the bloody photo would be up by now! ha ha come on NR555... get onto it...
-
Neale perkins with his 15 can the night before race face on sunday morning! He was on the gas riding too...(http://i287.photobucket.com/albums/ll133/mxmaniac05/mumcamera207.jpg)
-
That look's like ross's peak cap in front of neale's hand :-\ :-\
-
shit thats scary, i'm off to see a therapist now ! ;D
-
what happens if some one crashes and say is seriously hurt or kills some one and the hospitial takes a blood test which revels to much alchol !!!!!!!!!! who responseable im sure that insurance company would have something to say ,and who take the on the responabilities when or even if some one decide to drink to much piss and then go out and race
do you take your race bike to the pub on friday night
i must be missing something here
-
Its over exagerated Paul... not serious. just hangin perko out to dry for a laugh buddy. i think if something was to happen to anyone in that situation, it would be there own problem i would think.. :-\ What does that indemity form u sign mean? Is that to put all responsability on u? i have always wondered what that is for.. ???
u are missing something here paul...its called riding! ha ha swing a leg over one of them works of art ! ;D
-
I LIKE FUN AS MUCH AS THE NEXT GUY ;)
its easy to put your head in the sand ,and if you sign the form in good faith does that mean you can be run over by drunks on mx bike with no protection because he /they decided to have a big nite and no one gives 2 hoooots
i dont drink / my best freind was killed by a drunk when he was offered a lift home from work in the city the DRUNK HIT A TRAM HEAD ON AND LIVED ,MY FREIND DIED AT 19 YEARS OLD HE(the drunk) SAID I DID NT SEE THAT TRAM COMEING ,IF YOU NEED A LOAD OF SAND DELIVERED JUST GIVE ME A RING AND ILL BRING SOME MORE DOWN FOR YOU TO COMPLETELY COVER YOUR HEAD AND THAT WAY WHEN SOME THING HAPPENS YOU CAN SAY I DINT SEE THAT EITHER ANY IM SURE THE PIECE OFF PAPER ISNT WORTH NOTHEING IF THE PERSON IN QUESTION IS PISSEd
i have 10 million public liabilty insurance for my work and if im pissed or one of my workers is or has decided have a smoke or drink IT COUNTS FOR NOTHING and im personalby liable for the damage if theY drop a tree on somebodys house
-
Ahhhhh... the suspense... ;D With technology, u would think the bloody photo would be up by now! ha ha come on NR555... get onto it...
I'm sure I'll get the photo one of these days. Don't worry, as you saw on the day.. it does exist!
-
Paul,
If you are trying to compare someone who walks out of a pub or club and gets behind the wheel completely drunk, with someone who overindulges on Sat night & is in bed by 11pm, wakes up in the morning whoofs down a plate of bacon, eggs & baked beans, who is felling a little seedy & rides after 9.30am the next day, then I think you are off the mark there.
Ken Baker
-
Paul,
First let me say I agree with you and am very sorry you lost a mate in such a senseless way.
If I, or anyone else, in your opinion is not in a fit state to ride, or to be an official, then you should approach the Clerk of the Course (This can be done anonymously), or the Stewart if it's the COC that you feel is unfit, to have said person interviewed to assertain whether they are indeed fit to ride/officiate which under the GRC's is a an intial breath test. If this is postive it will be followed by another a short time later under controlled conditions to confirm the positive reading. (0.1g/litre GCR 11.21) Even if there is not a breath tester available it is up to the person concerned to prove they are fit to ride, not the other way round.
But, and there is always a but, you cant stop at just alcohol. Drugs can conceivably be worse in that someone may be stoned but does not have the obvious signs that accompanies the demon drink. A lot of prescription drugs come with the warning not to drive or operate machinery but I'm not sure if I could pick someone who was affected. Performance drugs, how do you pick them?
Then there are injuries. Haven't we all riden with injuries at some stage. I saw a competitor at a Western Region ride when he could barely hang onto the handle bars just for those precious points.
That takes us to bike scrutineering. How many times has the excuse that the bike is "Old" and therefore should be shown some leniency or it's a members bike of the club holding a meet, any meet, so they are scrutineered sight unseen. Or how often have you seen a rider crash only to remount and rejoin the race with a broken front brake lever?
Now to the biggest variable of all, rider ability. We have all seen a rider at some stage or other that we have thought he was a danger to himself and everyone else on the track. Did we do anything about it? We have a junior in our club who when he first started was an accident waiting to happen. Most just bitched about this kid, I decided to try and help him. We all had to start somewhere, like learner drivers on the road and you can't get race experience without racing. Then you have the good riders but they have the "Win at all costs" attitude. I have 40yo+ mates who will not ride the Vets with me at the WR's because of the killer instinct of some of the other competitors but are more than happy to ride our club days solely because of the more laid back atmosphere and isn't that what Viper is all about?
Again, I agree with you Paul but there has to be a little give and take.
I did have a bit to drink Saturday night, was it 15? Can't tell you. I got carried away because this was a reunion for me, seeing people I hadn't in nearly a year. As for the photo, I have mates who look worse than that on any given morning without alcohol playing a part. I assessed myself as capable of racing Sunday, should have I riden? To the letter of the law (GCR's), probably not and this is where people like you should step in and protect me from myself and others. Perhaps EVERYONE should be breathtested at sign in, this could be added to the Supp Regs, then everyone will be happy. I honestly believe I was no more a danger to myself or, more importantly, other riders than anyone else out there but you are entitled to your opinion. There has to be a balance of Safety for Safety's sake and riders going out and enjoying themselves. If ALL the rules were aplied "To the letter of the Law" I dont think many would get to ride. Afteral the GCR's are about "Fair and Safe racing" and if you feel I am a threat to that safety then approach me, or the officials, before I race, not a week after the fact on a website forum. If you are going to be a dirt track detective make sure you are equally diligent on ALL breaches of the rules. I hate this cliché but "At the end of the day" it is the responsibilty of everyone for their own safety and you may have still been enjoying your mate's company if he hadn't accepted that ride. I guess what I am saying that we have all made stupid mistakes and sadly your mate paid the ultimate price. Up to now none of my actions in life have ever seriously hurt anyone but there for the grace of God go I.
By the way, I have not commented here about other viper riders, just riders in general.
On a brighter note I had a fantastic night at the Presentation Night and congratulations to all the winners but especially to Allan Rhia for finally taking out the 125 title, well deserved. I look forwaed to racing a full season next year but I'll have to wait and see what the dates are. To the out going committee/helpers thanks for all your hard work behind the scenes that sometimes goes unrecognised but I can assure you it is much appreciated. To the incoming mob I am here to help if I can even if I can't race.
Haven't had a beer yet but the day's not over.
-
sorry im not haveing a go at you personaly 666 as a matter off fact ididnt even know who the photo was .iwas thinking out aloud and wondering were either viper or the club assoated with the event stood if a accident happened and alchol from the night before became a issue
-
Ok neil but what was ross doing in your car ??? :-\ :-\
-
Non of us are good enough to make the old bikes go fast enough to do major damage.... I try alot ..... still no damage...... maybe kawi440's hand-made, sheepstations swinging arm with the big ding I gave it , might beg to differ......... but it cant talk ..... :-X
-
Gator, that is just sick. He's not my type.
Paul
I have big enough shoulders to wear it and I stand by what I said. If one day I am excluded from riding for over imbibing the night before I will wear it on the chin and simply watch my mates race. I hope I don’t indulge so much as that was to happen.
To answer your question on where would the club stand?
The club/officials have a duty of care to all and to be held liable in the situation you described.
1. You have to be seen to have a duty of care (Obvious)
2. You must have breached that duty of care.
3. An injury/death resulted from that breach.
Taking your example lets say no one approached officials or the officials didn't notice this person then even in the event of injury/death caused by this person the club/officials are not held responsible.
If they had been approached or noticed this person but was then convinced he was fit to race and the above happened they still would not be held responsible.
BUT if they had been approached or noticed this person but chose not to do anything about it and the above happen then the club/officials could be held responsible.
The person in all this, however, is not only liable to civil action but what a lot of riders fail to remember is that they still have to abide by the normal laws and in this case could be charged by the Police.
Viper666 is out of here
-
well said viper666 8)
-
Good on you Neale! Well put..
A good harmless night had by all around the campfire, followed by a great day!
Rob and Amanda
-
all respect to you for answering the original question
-
still waiting on photo ;D
maybe it doesnt exist ::)
or maybe its not as bad as everyone says ;D
-
I was told a simple "rubbing is racing" incident with no malice intended, by a number of people who were there. I wasn't there, so I can't really comment, but I guess it comes down to which camp you belong to as to the way you see things. It's happened to all of us and and will continue to happen in a racing situation. I can't understand what all the fuss is about. The photo may indeed yield a different situation though. I'm hanging to see said photo, if it does exist. Please load her up if you have it.
Cheers,
K
-
I'm waiting for the rest of the pics from the raceday it was a cracker ,someone must have some good shots ???.
-
Hey Hoony are you gonna make it for sunday ??? DMCC club mx
-
Totaly agree Rossco, at the end of the day its low level fun racing no matter what anyone likes to think. there is no prestige of a state title. it was started to get old bikes (and blokes ) out on the track to enjoy a bit of fun without the sheep stations.
i got into this as i still wanted to have a ride on my bikes but didn't want to race against Mr 25 Y/o crazy with no mortgage, no kids and still fully sponsored by mum and dad. i wanted to ride with blokes my own age with the same attitude, not a win at all costs competitor.
if you want to get real serious get out of viper and go and crack in the big time in modern mx on whatever bike you like.
A well known passonate Viper Member once said at riders brief a few years ago " Ride safe, take it easy out there, your only racing for $20 trophies that don't mean anything!"

there is a pissa of a photo of the incident, i seen it on the day.
Its all for fun in the long run, Just like hOOny said, if u want to race for sheep stations, its probably not the most welcoming type of series to bring your win at all cost attitude too. :) bring on 2009... maybe :-\

Hi guys yes i am the perp as NR555 calls me i passed his brother on the inside on the back corner at the time there was room but buy the time we were in the corner there was less room we made contact no one came off it was close but thats racing and it was the expert class not the clubmen class as for the outher comments i am 38 have 3 kids and run my own business and also i have a mortgage to so what are you all trying to say here you need to be old and slow. I race the modern 450 classes vets and A grade aginst the 18 year old loonies i dont want to get hurt or hurt anyone else but some time these things happen it has happened to me lots we are racing motorbikes not playing chess at least i didnt ram him when we rode into the pits as a pay back nor did i respond to that like i got for my passing move title or no title if you are racing to win and trying to stay in the lead and dont want to get passed then dont race yes there is a photo and please post it so all can see my passing move you all say there are no sheep stations but you all try hard to do your best and dont nock back the trophys. If its just fun then why are we racing and giving trophys having a presentation night seems like things just dont go the way some want it to hey are we riding our vintage bike we all tresure so much or just bitchin and trying to piss people off

Kaw440, as i wasn't at wonthaggi at last round, i don't know what occurred and i was generalising about people taking VMX racing at low levels (non title meetings) way too serious.
i apologise if you thought the comments i made were directed at you, i assure you that was not my intention. we have raced together many times and i have never had any incidents with you trackside.
perhaps in hindsight i should have not posted my comments in this thread.
